Wednesday was our 10th anniversary! Can you believe it, a whole decade?! That also means it's time for the most anticipated picture of the year- our picture in picture. This year, it was taken at the very exciting local of our front porch. It's a little sad, especially when you look back at the last four or so you can really see- Caribbean Beach Resort, Port Orleans Resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Fort Wilderness. *Sigh* But you know, hopefully next year we'll be somewhere fun, and it'll be like- oh, that was the pandemic anniversary! (Here's crossing my fingers there is just one of those).
Now, we couldn't order room service. But we could order Uber Eats from Brunchies. And, that's kind of the same thing. Nobody's going to argue with Guava-Stuffed French Toast in bed. And, on the bightside, homemade mimosas are way cheaper than getting them from somewhere.
To keep us busy we had a few projects for the day. We finally decided to take the mailbox from when we did the Fenderson's, and paint it like Carl and Ellie in Up. It's been on the back porch (and we keep things like gardening gloves, gardening ties and clippers in it) and I put the post in the ground a few days earlier so we could put it outside. Convenient and Cute!
Super cute, right? Plus, we can always be like 'we did that on our 10th anniversary', a pro of being home on our actual anniversary, something that hasn't happened in years.
We also decided to break out our Chicago puzzle that we bought on our honeymoon. We had never opened it- almost like we knew we'd need it for a Pandemic Anniversary!
In the afternoon, we headed out to our socially distant activity for the day. We told the kids they could come or not, Peyton declined but Hayden and Calib came along. It was the first time they had been in a car in three months! And, I think the first time they had left the subdivison.
So where were we headed? To Noah's Ark Farm in Odessa. They are doing socially distant farm visits. Your family gets the whole place to themselves for an hour, for a donation. The woman who runs the farm will be around, cut up carrots to feed the animals, but for the most part stays well enough away from you, and always has on a mask. So, it's basically just your family and the animals. They also leave an hour between families to make sure there is no overlap and to clean and disinfect the gates and such.
First up, we visited the chickens!
It is safe to say the chicken pen was not Calib's favorite spot in the farm. We couldn't convince him or Hayden to pick up any chickens, but they did give them pets.
Meanwhile, I was super excited to catch and hold a chicken! I've only ever gotten to hold baby chicks at the fair before.
The bunny pen was much more Calib's speed. Now, this is a rescue farm and some animals are more tame than others. The long time residents are happy to be cuddled. Some are a little more skittish. But, it was pretty obvious who was who.
We were also given carrots to give the bunnies, they were happy with the treat.
Hayden and Calib got a whole crowd of bunnies.
The pony was also a fan of the carrots.
There's also a couple of donkeys. I loved this one, he walked with me a little, ate some carrots from my hand, and even was totally cool getting hugs and taking selfies!
Calib was a fan of the docile donkey as well.
Hayden also gave out some hugs.
The goats were happy and affectionate guys. They rubbed up on you like Etta does. We fed them and brushed them and showed them some love.
And we also got to feed the ducks! I'd never fed a duck out of the palm of my hand before. But, you could also feed them out of their little feed scoop if hand feeding wasn't your thing (Calib used the feeder, no shocker there. But he did feed them!)
And no visit would be complete without a stop to visit the resident piggy.
So, it wasn't the Wild Africa Trek, which we had planned on doing on our 10th anniversary for years, but it was awesome. And, something about animals dumps a whole lot of endorphins into me. So, it was nice to hold a bunny and hug a donkey, and cuddle some goats, and feed some ducks.
On the way home we swung by Lowes for an anniversary gift, an Orange tree! (We were only in the the garden center and it was like 2:30 on a Wednesday, but we were the only one's with masks on- even the employees weren't wearing them!)
In order to make room for the orange tree, we had to ditch the fig tree, which never really took- we transplanted it when we moved in, but it just never did anything.
So in went the Orange Tree in the back corner.
After all that hard work, a pool trip with snacks was in order.
Including, but not limited to our cheesecake we had gotten at Amorette's the day before.
So we floated around and enjoyed our drinks, and hung out for a couple hours.
After our pool trip, we took our picture in picture. The boys could have taken it, I suppose, but we used our tripod we use most years with the remote, sitting on the tray of my frog table (His name is Tobias) Asa likes to snap pictures as we walk along trying to find a good spot to take the picture, and make funny faces. This year it was my turn.
Worth noting: we ordered this for the front door as another little anniversary gift.
For dinner we ordered deep dish pizza from Gino's East in Chicago. We ate there on our honeymoon, and for our first anniversary we ordered the pizza as well. It comes shipped overnight in dry ice, and then you thaw it in the fridge overnight, and cook it for about 45 minutes. It's really awesome pizza. And you can only order it in packs of 3, so we still have two more.
Of course, we ate it in our room at our "Anniversary/Quarantine Table"
Now, if you were at our wedding reception, you know at the end of the night, we jumped in the hotel pool in our wedding attire. Every year since at the end of our anniversary, we've jumped in a pool in our clothes (or a fountain one night when all the pools were closed because of storms- or the Gulf of Mexico on our first anniversary). I thought this year it might not happen- lack of opportunity and all. But, we were house sitting for neighbors who told us to use the pool as much as we wanted. The tradition is alive!
But, while eating dinner, I told Asa since we were home, I could put on my wedding dress to jump in the pool again. It's the first time I put on my wedding dress since our wedding day.
Asa laced it up as tight as it would go, but it was still way too big.
So I put my swimsuit on under it. Plus, that way I could ditch the dress and swim after that.
We also took the opportunity to do a dip kiss picture, and then made our to the pool.
And then we jumped in the pool.
We swam for a little after that.
And we finished off the night with our little cake from Amorettes, which we cut using our wedding cake knife. It's also the same one my parents used- they were also married on June 17th.
There was a lot of eating, so we just had some of the cake, and finished it a few nights later. But, I love this cake. It's 15 layers of amazingness, and we only ever get it for our anniversary (this little thing is $16).
So there you have it. A quarantine anniversary. You know, leading up to it, we were bummed. Like, extra bummed. But, I think we'll have fond memories of this one.
And besides, it sucks we couldn't do all these grand things for our milestone 10th anniversary. But, you know what's even better than 10 years? 11! And 12! And every single one after that.
