The big excitement for our Ohio trip always comes from a visit to Cedar Point. Last year we spent a couple nights at the cottages there on Lake Erie, and the boys were quite excited to find out we were doing it again this year.
But before we get to that, Wednesday we hit the fair for a bit, and then worked on some projects for the second flower show..
...including Hayden's dish garden. I enjoyed the celery slide.
But after all that, I had to go retrieve Asa from the airport. We can't go to Cedar Point without him, after all. We stopped by grandma's house so we could visit for a bit.
Thursday morning we had to work on our second show flowers, since we were headed off to Cedar Point.
After we worked on those we took Asa out to the fair to show him the boys winnings.
And that goat I super wanted. He was sleeping in the food crate, it was ADORABLE.
But Asa still wouldn't let me get him.
After a morning at the fair, we were headed off to the cottages at Cedar Point. We've toyed with the idea of staying at Breakers, the hotel on point. The walk is shorter to the parks, the pool is better, but the privacy and the grill at the cottages are total selling points.
And there are beds for everyone!
Usually you get a nice view of the lake, but we ended up behind some brush, which I was a little disappointed with.
The pool is nice, but COLD.
It took awhile to even convince Hayden to get in.
Calib and Peyton didn't even attempt a trip to the pool.
We sat out on the deck and made dinner for the boys...
...and then Asa and I went off for a date night. We played mini golf and had some appetizers.
Plus we got to check out the newly redone Hotel Breakers....
..and walk out by the beach.
There's some new views with the old part of the hotel gone, and it's really weird.
We just missed a pretty sunset by the time we got back.
My cousin Jake came to join us that night, and the next morning he, Asa, Calib and Peyton were off for the early morning hours. If it seems like all the pictures at the park are of Hayden, it's because I spent the day with him, while they rode all the big rides.
But Hayden did go on the Gemini for the very first time!
We did Woodstock Express, where I worked the Ride Photo once upon a time.
Lines were short, and we did get to see the other boys occasionally.
Hayden also went on the corkscrew for the first time.
And Peyton went on the Power Tower for the first time. It's the only thing he hadn't ridden at Cedar Point.
Hayden and I meanwhile hit the tamer rides, and went on the Giant Wheel.
And I just watched as Hayden went on all the spinny rides.
We walked along the frontier trail...
..and stopped by the barn to check out the animals.
These little guys were adorable and I NEED ONE.
We hit the Mine Ride.. and then headed back to the cottage.
Big news, Hayden is big enough to ride ANYTHING!
I took him to the pool, and the other boys met up with us.
They had a quick dinner and Jake, Peyton and Calib went back into the park.
Mom came to meet up with us after she was done at the fair.
And Bob and Linda stopped by for a visit too.
Mom, Bob, Linda, and Hayden headed off into the park, and Asa and I walked up to meet up with Jake so I could go on some rides.
I did, however, bow out of the Gatekeeper. I went on it last year, and it made me pretty motion sick. I sat and waited, but it was a super short line, so it wasn't a long wait.
(I took this picture right after Jake gave Asa a wet willy. It's HILARIOUS)
We, of course, had to stop by Sneak Peeks.
That swingy green door back there is the exact place I met Asa.
We rode some things, and headed to the back of the park.
Cedar Point at night is my favorite place probably in the world. SO MANY good memories there.
Jake had to head back to OSU, but the boys had one last ride in them, and took another trip on Top Thrill Dragster.
All the excitement, and they were out within minutes.
We got a late checkout the next morning, so we had lunch at the cottage.
Then it was off to Soak City for a few hours. Luckily, it had warmed up enough to enjoy it.
We left midafternoon. The boys are always so sad to leave. We'll be back next year.
No trip to Ohio is complete without a trip to Tofts for ice cream.
Then we met up with everyone at the fair. Cort brought Gwen and Garrett up to see their ribbons because they had entered a few things too.
And the boys got to see their ribbons from the second show.
They also got to show off all their ribbons to Uncle Clint and Aunt Jess who had come up.
And Mom got to show off her Best of Show.
We visited some barns, and spent some time with everyone.
We had some dinner and took some family pictures.
But, we had a tropical storm to beat home (although it ended up not being anything, shocker) so we left Saturday afternoon hoping to drive all the way home overnight. But, somewhere in Tennesee we decided it just wasn't going to work out, so we stopped for the night. We actually ended up in a very nice comfort suites. Everyone had a bed, and we all got a hot breakfast, so I was happy. Plus, it made it so we were able to stop for dinner just over the GA/FL boarder at the closest Fazoli's.
Overall, not the best trip ever. But, not the worst one either. I've had quite a few vacations this year, with Hawaii and our week at Disney. But, the boys hadn't, and I felt bad about getting sick and doing less than we had planned. But, that's just how it all shook out.
We're pretty excited to be home and for September. Everyone is back in school, and we're looking forward to hitting the theme parks and getting out around here. Asa's in the office this week, and we had to tackle vacation laundry mountain, so we haven't done much this week. We did have a birthday party yesterday, and we're headed to Disney tomorrow though (a perk of having the second car all fixed, yay!), so I'll catch you up on that next time.
Next Up: Enjoying Florida again, finally!
