Introducing Dipper Waterstraut

For the last week, I've been lobbying Asa for another cat. Our shelter here is over capacity, and in an effort to make some room, they've been lowering adoption fees (to $5-$15) and having extra events. The county over from us is so over capacity, they are telling people that if they have to surrender their pet, it may be put down immediately, because there just isn't room for them. Obviously, I'm an animal lover. I think I've kind of converted Asa to one too (even if he won't admit it-- but he loves his Sophs and Nooms). I just can't stand the thought of all these animals without home. Obviously we can't take in anymore dogs, but I thought we had room for one more cat. Maybe when we move out to the farm, I can rescue some goats!

So, we talked about it, and we decided we should go out to the shelter and see if we could find one that fit our family. The result: Dipper! He looks a ton like Maybel, he's super playful, and so far he's pretty awesome.

Hayden has taken a particular interest in Dipper. He's pretty convinced Dipper is his pet. He's even lobbying for Dipper to sleep in his room (since Maybel sleeps with Peyton, Phenom sleeps with us, and Calib sleeps with everyone else).

Peyton, who inherited my absolute love for pets is thrilled.

Maybel is still pretty unsure. She's hissed and swiped at him a couple of times. But, she doesn't seem mad at us, and she's warming up a little to him. (That's Maybel in the picture, she's clearly bigger, but I told you they look A LOT alike)

Besides Dipper, yesterday was pretty low key, recovering from our big day out the night before. There was lots of TV, video games, and lounging around the house. We even went with a slow cooker dinner, but it ended up being kind of a flop. Around 8, Asa decided he wanted to try and 'redeem himself' (his words, not mine) and he made an awesome banana's foster and french toast pudding.

Last night we decided until Maybel and Dipper got along a little better, Dipper would sleep with us. He found a spot between mine and Asa's pillow, cuddled up to both of us and purr-ed for literally three hours straight. Maybel at least had a foster home for a little while before she came to us. Dipper had not. He spent pretty much his whole life at the shelter (he's 9 weeks old), and he just seemed SO happy. You can't help but feel awful for him, and be so happy he finally found a home at the same time. Resuce pets are the best. I swear they know they've been rescued. Maybel still seems so appreciative and she's so affectionate, and Dipper hasn't left our side.

Today things have been going a little better between the two of them, but Maybel still keeps an eye out. She likes to know where Dipper is.

We did go out to the pool today for awhile. Since Asa was off, we got to go mid-day, and nobody else was there. It was awesome. We threw the football around, and had a good time.

I also got lots of errands run today, and got some work done around the house (laundry, haircuts, Asa mowed the lawn-- that kind of boring stuff). I got TONS of cat litter this morning at Target, for a crazy good deal. It was also a toilet paper and toothpaste stock up day. I saved a huge amount- Yay couponing.  Then later, I went out to Publix to shop their new ad. I am still completely amazed at what a little bit of my time can end up saving. I ended up with nearly $90 worth of groceries, for $30. You can see my Publix hull in the picture below. And check me out grocery shopping the day BEFORE pay day. That's pretty awesome. Couponing + Overtime + Winning the Lottery = Not being poor.

Asa and Peyton worked together tonight, and made us an awesome honey mustard chicken casserole with green beans and potatoes. I added some strawberries, and we came in around $7 for dinner.

I had planned on going out to go mini-golfing today for our Sports week activity, I have a groupon for glow-golf! But, we all felt kind of guilty leaving Dipper closed up while we left, so we went to plan B- playing croquet in the backyard. Except, then it rained. So, on to plan C-- making a mini-golf course in the living room!

We got out all kinds of 'obsticals' out. We used boxes, Hayden's huge stuffed Perry and of course we have the gator golf from Christmas (still the best $3 I've ever spent!) We may or may not have a huge vase of golf balls from various mini golf trips in our house too.

We moved the course around several times to make it a little different every time.

Asa didn't play, but he gave Calib some pointers, especially when his ball got stuck in the box.

Calib ended up winning, but Hayden spent a little while moving the course around after that. Over all, it was a success and a good plan C for the day.

Now, we're hanging out catching up on Master Chef, and maybe we'll get to Once Upon A Time (Asa and I are re-watching, while it's the boys first time through, and they LOVE it) You know things are a success when Hayden decides his toys are various characters and cleans out his buckets to make a new bucket for whatever his current obsession is (the last two have been Harry Potter, and Once Upon A Time).

Next Up: We're off to pick up our plates from last week! We can't wait to see how they turned out!
