Asa Waterstraut: College Graduate!

We obviously have to go a little out of order for this weeks blog. Let's first go back to yesterday, which was kind of the most amazing day. Asa was in the office, which stinks, and it was rainy ALL day, and I hardly slept the night before. BUT, yesterday was cool because we got our (tiny) tax return, it marked 12 years since I met Asa AND Asa submitted his final capstone project for graduation.

By the time he got home, he was just waiting on if his project was approved...

So, we all just hung out waiting. Plus, I mean, it was easy to be lazy yesterday, it was SO rainy and yucky.

\

And then... SUCCESS! His project was accepted on his VERY first try. Kind of amazing. Which also means, he has to do the paperwork for graduation, and then he's all done. There it is, 100 percent complete. Of course I'm proud of him, it's a pretty big accomplishment. (And he said the CUTEST thing to me today when he asked if I'd ever kissed a college graduate... I hadn't. Not until last night anyway!) So, kudos to Asa. But, here's the dealio, if he waits another three weeks to get all his graduation gear in order he'll be put in the winter commencement, which is held at DISNEY WORLD! So, he talked to his mentor today and she was going to make sure it was on the up and up to do that, but otherwise commencement is in Utah, and who wants to go there? blah. It's worth noting when he started two and a half years ago, his accelerated plan had him graduating THIS DECEMBER. He beat his ACCELERATED plan by six months. That's SUPER impressive. And yes, I'm bragging. But, I never do, and I'm totally allowed (and I should, because he never will.)

So we HAD to celebrate. If you've been following for the last two and a half years, you know a passed class makes it rootbeer float night around here. But, that just didn't seem to do. For awhile we sat around watching the Lightning Game (they lost and the series is tied 2-2, boo), talking about what to do. We never really thought about it. Asa had some rum, but that just wasn't doing it.

Then there was some really weird Dragon Ball Z thing.... but mostly everyone was just SUPER high strung.

Eventually Calib talked Asa into an impromptu taco bell trip (because apparently we're back to our ACTUAL college years), and Hayden and I chimed in with a stop for some donuts too. So, here it was like 9:30, rainy, and Hayden, Asa, Sophie, Phenom and me were out in our pajamas getting donuts and tacos. I feel based on Asa's college years at Baker (before/during meeting me) were summed up last night with the craziness. It seemed fitting.

I also convinced him to use some precious personal time today. I mean how many times do you finish college? So we had a pool afternoon!

And everyone was still a little high strung. But, better the pool than my living room.

And our neighbors joined us too!

Calib was up SUPER late this morning (I'm talking not getting up for a Panini lunch at 11:30), so he was making himself something when we left and he met us down there on his bike. He gets down to the pool and he's all "hey mom, riding your bike without shoes is not awesome." He might be 15, but there's some things I'm still shocked he needs me for.. like telling him to wear shoes when he rides a bike.

Asa and I went out for an early dinner at Aquafinz to celebrate too. We had a really good coupon (like $20 off $40) for our anniversary month.

So besides graduating, we had a good "weekend" around here. We finally used our groupon to Airheads, the trampoline gym. I even jumped (I can't for very long though, I get motion sick).

We were there for a long time, and while Calib and Peyton took a break...

Hayden and Asa jumped for hours.

And in true Asa fashion, before we left he had half the kids in the place playing a game with him and the boys.

We also had an unplugged day, which was tons of fun. They always are. But, it did end a little early, because we allowed the TV back on in time for the Lightning game.

There was blanket fort building, bike riding, and a trip to the pool. And in-between that, I managed to finish my library book while being interrupted at least once per page.  A pretty amazing feat if I do say so myself.

And we finally taught Hayden how to play Munchkin. (We have to play something else, I had two seriously amazing wins at Spy Alley in a row, and nobody has played since.)

Oh, and I thought this was hilarious, Calib was counting his birthday money, and Peyton was totally hanging his head in jealousy.

On the Fenderson front, we are down to our very last one. Meet Corky Fenderson. He stole Uluru, and his last known whereabouts were in Australia. But Corky has grown concerned that the gifts he was recieving from his brothers around the world have stopped, so he's looking to retrace their steps based on the gifts that were sent to him.

So the boys were sent this big dry erase map from the Super-Secret Secret Spy Agency to keep track of Corky's trip around the world.

Their first Corky mail came on Sunday morning.

They got this fun pool noodle Corky had planned to use on his trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

They got a letter talking about Corky from the Home Office. (fun fact: he only travels EAST so he will never backtrack.)

So, the boys had a lot of things they had seen before. Now, I maybe went a little too crazy on perfecting this one, but they got things that matched up with the brother's likes from each country. So, for example, Coby in North America took pictures. So, if it was a North American clue, they'd have pictures. If it was a Europe clue, they had cut up flags, because Carlton (who stole Stonehenge) likes included ripping up flags. I'm seriously proud of this last one. It's kind of amazing.

Now, they have a bit of an explanation about all these things too, because Corky's likes include writing in his diary, and the Home Office just happened to get their hands on those entries.

So they used the book the Home Office sent them to look up clues.

And then they started tracking..

And sending back to the Home Office where they thought the items were from.. (ignore the fact it says Coby on the top of there. It was a typo Calib couldn't help but point out to me).

That night we had in-n-out burgers, since the recipe was included for the California clue.

And we went to use our new pool toys!

They got the dolphin from the Home Office as a reward for capturing the last criminal.

So just how do we get all these toys down to the pool. Well, it's interesting to say the least.

And that backdoor doesn't close, folks. Not with the turtle in there. Good thing the pool isn't too far.

Mail kept coming! (That freshwater shark there let them know Corky was heading to Lake Nicaragua, btw, also those noodle guys MIGHT have been on cartwheel for 50% off).

And, a few more items help them with their tracking. The missing posters from some of the Fenderson crimes were found in the trash, along with some more pictures, Coke from Atlanta, and a lobster to rule out Maine.

Some clues were easy, some they had to work a bit more for. Anything in South America had stats listed they had to find in their folders they did last week.

And there was more tracking..

I totally missed Wednesday, because I was on the phone and they did the whole thing without me. But, I guess it's good to know they don't need my help, because they got it all right anyway. Good job, guys!

More mail...

More diary entries..

... More clues..

...More research...

... More tracking...

A puzzle from Africa, sort of (it was a Penguins of Madagascar thing).

After they had done their clues today, and after we went to the pool and dinner, Hayden noticed the flag was up AGAIN (It's never been up twice in one day unless it was an arrest warrant day- but you see, Asa didn't want to miss the next one, and he's in the office tomorrow again.)

Because Corky had found Casey! Apparently he was still in Africa. And Casey told Corky all about how ONE of the Super-Secret Secret Spy Agents helped throw everyone off his trail. All he had to do was buy him off.

It also came with some other clues. So, they figured out where the stuff was from, and looked into the airline tickets (remember Cameron in Asia had airline tickets to fly to all the capital cities!)

They tracked it..

And filled out their sheet..

Before the arguing started about just which agent was paid off.

For those of you who don't know, it was totally Calib. But, that's not common knowledge among the Super-Secret Secret Agents. It's just the blame game around here.

So, their board is up, and they'll be getting one more clue. I thought it was a nice touch all the missing posters were crinkled because they were found in the trash, but since Mount Kilimanjaro is still missing (thanks to Calib helping Casey in Africa escape), that poster was found hanging on a bulletin board and not in the trash. That Home Office, they are on top of things.

Lots of clues this week, hopefully the boys get the final destination right- because the Home Office has the BEST package to send if they complete their mission.

Oh, and tomorrow, we have our one and only June birthday for presidents: George H.W. Bush. Asa made fun of me because I read a book about him, and then just wrote the whole 'story of George Bush' from memory.

Isn't it cool though? I made a parachute! Complete with a George H.W. Bush jumping!

That's it from here. It's been an awesome happy week - one of those "I'm so lucky to have the life I have" kind of weeks, and next week Asa and I are having a big four and a half day anniversary blow out. I'm talking horseback riding, cirque du soleil, hoop dee doo review, behind the seeds, discovery cove blow out. It's going to be AWESOME.

Next Up: I'll be back tomorrow with 41's birthday!
