Dolphins, Goats & Baby Chicks

We inturrupt our countries project to bring you your ordinary Waterstraut update. If you've been reading our countries blog, you've probably heard by now we've all had issues with being sick lately (I'm the latest victim), but every now and again we get us all feeling well enough to go out and about. Wednesday was one of those days, and we used it to go over to our State Fair.

We all agree the Sandusky country fair is better than the Florida State Fair (and don't even get me started on how piddly and blah our county fairs are), but we take what we can get. And anytime I can get to petting some baby goats, I'm on board.

We go to the fair mainly for the animals, but there's not really a whole lot of opportunity to pet them. The one exception is the 'Moo-ternity Ward', where you can pet and feed the goats and sheep. Going during a weekday ensures the animals are actually hungry enough to eat the feed, too.

They have a few other animals too, and the baby cows are like REALLY little, in fact some of them are just a few days old. Also in the mooternity ward you can milk a cow, but I couldn't convince any of the boys to do it. Lame.

We also got some lunch at the fair. Asa was excited the omelet guy was actually there and open (something we haven't seen in a few years), and we got the obligatory fair corn dog and lemon shake up. Sharing the big drink probably didn't help with the spread of germs. Whoopsie.

The rabbit and chicken barn is the other place where if you hit it just right, you can also pet the animals. Exhibitors bring out their chickens for you to hold and pet. You'll notice Calib is no where near this situation, as his fear of birds is still very much alive.

I mean, he wouldn't even hold the baby chicks! The chicks! The girl who gave us one to hold was all 'They are for sale'.... /sigh. If only I could have one. Maybe the neighbors won't notice once we get the fence?!?

We did go through the cow barn too, and sometimes if you're lucky you can pet a cow on the end, but that's about it. Sadly, there's no horse petting area. That's always my favorite.

We did go over to cracker country to walk around, and Asa ended up getting a new coffee mug. He's a sucker for the handmade ones, and he loves cracker country, so it was a must-get for him.

I considered a log hog, they were so cute. But, I decided against it, they seemed easy to make, and I thought maybe we could make some here eventually.

We walked around a bit, but as you can see the skies were about to open up. We stopped by Costco on our way home (because that's a thing now), and it was pouring down rain by the time we got home.

Yesterday I felt pretty crappy, but a new generation of Pokemon were released, and Asa and Peyton (and Hayden with Calib's phone) wanted to go out to Ballast Point to hunt some new ones. We had to go to Tampa anyway, so it made sense to stop by.

It was a much nicer day than our day at the fair, we had sunny skies and a warm breeze. We walked the pier, and played on the playground, and got some ice cream (which was lovely on my sore throat).

And there was lots of wildlife. We saw tons of birds, and even a group of dolphins out in the Bay, it was lovely, even if I felt crappy.

We also celebrated Valentines Day this week. Instead of normal Valentines candy, the boys got a heart shaped basket with international candies and cookies to fit in with our project.

We also had our usual Valentines Fondue for dinner, because if there's one night a year you can have chocolate for dinner, it's Valentines Day. We had one cheese fondue, a chocolate and peanut butter fondue, and a plain chocolate.

But the dippers are what makes it. For the cheese we do carrots, apples, broccoli and bread. For the chocolate we do strawberries, bananas, pound cake, rice crispies, brownies, and marshmallows. It's SO good, and the boys look forward to having dessert for dinner every year.

Other than that we've just been hanging out here. We've gone down to the lodge a few times for pool and ping pong and such, but mostly we've been around here coughing and sneezing everywhere.

I leave you with Hayden and Herman hanging out. Herman is still convinced he lives here, and I don't think the boys are helping that perception. He was in our garage the other night, and Calib made him a bed on the porch one night when it was cold and rainy.

If you want to check out our last two countries, we did Sweden and Australia. I didn't post those to Facebook (because I don't want to annoy everyone with 193 country posts), but you can click on the links or just page back

That's it from here.

Up Next: My favorite day- President's Day! Yay True American, we haven't played yet at the new house!
