Villains, Tacos and Alligators!

Some days, as a parent/teacher/wife I totally kill it. Today was one of those days. I managed to get a bit of school work done with the boys (though I haven't published the Waterstraut Weekly yet), folded and put five loads of laundry, cooked all the meals, did all my research on a president and a half, and got the new October board up. My last two items on my to-do list include writing my blog (since tomorrow we have a birthday), and printing out the stuff for said birthday. But holy geez, it's been a long day.

There's not a ton to get you caught up on. We did have a mini theme week last week, and the boys all worked on their villain crime files. Saturday we gave out awards. I was so proud of myself when I found the witches hat. (They were filled with cotton candy!) There was the most villainous award for both the Fictional and Non-Fictional category, along with Least Villainous. (For those you got the very non-threatening wind-up monsters).

For their non-fictional villains...

Asa picked Genghis Khan
Calib piked Adolf Hitler
Hayden went with Jefferson Davis
And Peyton wavered between Osama Bin Laden and Sudam Hussein (but ended up going with Bin Laden).

For Saturday's dinner we tried to theme it towards everyone's non-fictional villain, and came up with taco salad. Hitler was a vegetarian, Genghis Khan's time saw a whole lot of ground beef, and Peyton had originally picked Sudam Hussein, who could apparently eat a whole bag of Doritos in 10 minutes.

As a nod to Jefferson Davis, we had celery on the table. Apparently, when he served dinner, he kept celery on the table as the centerpiece. People would eat it between courses to cleanse their pallet. (Fun fact: Jefferson Davis at one point was married to Zachary Taylor's daughter!)

After dinner everyone presented both of their villains. Hayden's fictional villain was Rumpelstiltskin.

Calib went with King Candy...

Peyton of course went with Voledmort (shocking no one).

And Asa went with Magneto.

They all shared their folders and gave their pitch, for why their villain was either most villainous, or wrongly accused.

Calib took home two awards.

Adolf Hitler won for Most Villainous Non-fiction.

And King Candy won for least villainous, fictional.

Hayden took home the award for least villainous non-fictional with his file on Jefferson Davis.

And Peyton won most villainous fictional with his file on Voldemort.

For desert we had a poisoned apple bar. (Just regular apples with peanut butter, caramel, and chocolate fondu).

It was a short "theme week", but it helped get back into the swing of things, so I'll take it. Upcoming, much more exciting theme weeks include Explorers week and Rome Week!

Sunday we had our annual Tacos and Football party, and a bunch of our friends came over. As usual, lots of madness ensued.

Monday we were off to Disney. We were meeting up with our neighbors, but we decided to the boys to breakfast first. (Remember last week when I told you how much I love Disney breakfast?)

We decided on Kona Cafe, since everyone could eat there for around $10 (yay Tables in Wonderland!)

Then we were headed off to to the Magic Kingdom. (I don't know what's with Peyton and his faces.)

There was a bit of a wait for Haunted Mansion, but my boys make it entertaining.

We met up with our neighbors and spent the day going on rides.....

...hanging out on Tom Sawyers Island...

...watching Hayden get filthy....

... and encountering some crazy wildlife. I had seen people post pictures of this little guy right up along splash mountain, and I thought it was photoshopped....

...I'm here to tell you it's not.

We also encountered a baby snake, a tiny rabbit, and a lizard with cricket legs sticking out of his mouth. On the way out, we even saw some deer near the monorail.

Shawn and Asa attempted to make some sort of friendly wager on who would get Galactic Hero status, but I don't even think there was an official "shake" on anything.

It was a fun day, but holy heck was it humid. I was so sweaty and gross, please excuse the less than flattering pictures of me. We'll have to go again with neighbors sometime, but I am really looking forward to it cooling down. Anyway, I've had a long day, so I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

October birthdays are upon us, and I got everyone up in the knick of time. I realize I wasn't super creative with my board this month, but with six of them it was really hard to come up with something. I think they're fun, though (I especially like Teddy!)

Next Up: I'll see you back here tomorrow (or Friday if I don't get to it) with Jimmy Carter's birthday!
