Social Distancing Journal, Days 137 thru 144

Living in coronavirus times is like having a toddler. Days go by, sometimes agonizingly slow. But, then you look back on it and you're like 'it's been 5 months already?!"

In the last week, Florida has shown some signs of improvement in the spread of Covid. Cases have been down lately (part of it due to the tropical system closing testing sites on the east coast), where we've only seen about 5,000 cases the last two days. We will like break the half a million mark tomorrow though. The good news is we had two days in a row with positivity rate under 10%, for the first time since June. So that's a plus! But, sadly our deaths have been setting single day records over and over again. Today it was something like 245.

While Florida is slowing down for the moment, the US is not. We passed 150,000 deaths and something like 31 states are in "red zones". Speaking of red zones, we do have an uncontolled outbreak in all but four of Florida's county according to CovidActNow.Org.  So, that's not great. But the infection rate is coming down below 1.

So, before schools open and everyone goes back to college campus's and mask orders expire, I feel like it might be my window to do some things! Not anything crazy. But, Disney has been giving passholders a 30% discount at merchandise locations. It's never, ever, ever, been that much. I could buy SO MANY PUZZLES to stock up for when things get scary again. Because, I'm thinking they will get scary again.

And, I really want to swing by Trader Joes to stock up on fried rice, general tso's sauce, and various aolis. Plus, I haven't had 21 seasoning salute in months! It might be my time. And just in time for my birthday. I've even toyed with the idea of kayaking again!

Anyway, in case you missed it, Trump's big news this week was his Axios Interview, where he got called out on his cherry picking of numbers and lack of response but didn't seem to notice. It's like arguing politics with that one old crazy uncle. Bananas. He also called Dr. Brix's assessment pathetic, after she warned of the outbreak being more wide spread than it was in March and April and said we shouldn't be opening schools in hot spots. So, there's that.

Admittedly, I am feeling quarantine fatigue. I haven't been as productive, or even taking very many pictures. I'm going to rally though. Hayden are considering a return back to doing one fun thing a day.

Wednesday July 29th: Day 137

We're looking for some hope, and have started a countdown on the dry erase board.  This is the only picture I took that day.

Thursday July 30th, Day 138:

We celebrated our last July president's birthday in Gerald Ford. He's my mom's birthday twin.

And I had my props.

Hayden did his drawing.

But is also struggling with boredom.

So, we decided to make some Brownies.

Yes, yes, I do want a brownie.

We also started our next puzzle, a 1500 piece one.

Friday, July 31st: Day 139

Dipper is enjoying his new cat tower location in the office.

Asa and I went out to Costco and to pick up Aldi's curbside, but we stopped for a little lunch date (in the car) first.

And we worked on our puzzle.

We did haircuts.

And Calib finished his last math class he ever has to take. Summer semester is over, rootbeer floats all around!

Again, Hayden, is having difficulty.

Saturday, August 1, Day 141

Asa picked some more fresh flowers for our room, which was lovely.

We also went to Petco, curbside, to pick up Ellie a couple of new toys. It's hard to order off of Amazon, I never know if it will big enough or sturdy enough. But, I know the Petco brand of toys Ellie likes.

Oh! And we watched the new Muppets Now on Disney Plus.

So, besides the Pandemic, it is hurricane season. So, that's been added to the weather app now.

Usually we don't worry too much about hurricane season. But, the boys all suggested perhaps we prepare a little more, after hearing about the nightmare on the east coast as people tried to get to the stores ahead of the storm. The last thing I want to have to do is go to a store right before a hurricane during a Pandemic. Each one of those is bad enough, but put them together and that's not something I want to have to deal with. So, for the first time we're working on a Hurricane Kit. Because as Peyton put it, "I wouldn't put anything past 2020 at this point".

Speaking of Peyton, he did start classes at WGU on the first. He's working through his first course now. So, while Calib just finished school, Peyton is just starting.

Anyway, we've also taken to having meals in our room as a little getaway.

We worked  more on the puzzle.

Asa made us greek chicken for dinner.

And I made us Pita Chips

Sunday August 2, Day 142

We had just the hardest part of the puzzle left by Sunday.

But we finished it up pretty early in the day.

And it was a bit breezy and rainy while we got some weather from the tropical system.

Poor Etta was very, very scared of it all.

But, she was better by dinner time (check her out in the bakground of my dinner picture).

We Zommed with mom for a bit too.

Yesterday, Monday August 3: Day 143

The only pictures I took was of Ellie on her morning Walk. You know Mondays, those are like my laundry catch up day. I did some house cleaning, worked on stuff for the president birthdays and made dinner and all that boring Monday stuff.

And today, Tuesday, August 4: Day 144

It's Obama's birthday! Last time we celebrated his birthday in 2015, the birthday cards we sent him got us an invite to the Easter Egg Roll. This time, it was just me and Hayden sitting around for two hours complaining about how we got "here." *Sigh*

But at least I have props!

Also, if you've been following, every president gets a legacy newsletter. On one side, their legacy in a scathing review, the other side, their legacy through rose colored glasses. That's tougher with the newer guys. For George W.  I put the same thing on both sides, just spun different ways. But for Obama, I had as seen on MSNBC and Fox News.

I dug deep into the internet to find actual Fox News headlines. Those are real.

Hayden did an awesome job on his drawing, it featured all kinds of famous faces.
