Staycation Part Two: Sweetfields Farms

After our trip to Disney on Thursday and Friday, we were ready to have a more low key day, so we planned a trip to head up to Sweetfields Farm for their Fall Festival. Admittedly, it was much warmer again on Saturday- we were pushing mid 90s. So, it doesn't always feel too 'fallish' while you're wandering through a corn maze and checking out some pumpkins. But, still, a lovely time.

Sweetfield's Farm is about 20 minutes north of here. In the spring, they usually have a sunflower maze, and in the fall, they have a corn maze and games and such. We hadn't been in years, and they've certainly added some things since the last time we were there. The tortoise was a new addition.

But they also had the classic animals still- goats.

And donkeys (which you could brush!)

And of course more goats and cows.

And pigs.

There's still the pumpkin cannon, where you get to shoot pieces of pumpkins at the targets.

And the corn maze even had a new addition...

...when you came to an intersection, there were questions- answer correctly, and you're pointed in the right direction. Answer incorrectly, and you're headed to dead end.

My only complaint- I wish there were a few more questions. The intersections with them were way better than the ones without (especially in the heat!) But, we got most of them right, and found our way out of the maze.

There were also some hay bails to play around on (I could not get up to the top one like the guys).

And there were lots of games to play, too. Farm Basketball...

The water pump game

And even a hamster-like wheel race.

Asa and Hayden gave this a go, and told me not to try it (it was particularily hard on knees and backs, apparently. But it looked fun!)

And there was some seesaw balancing too.

My highlight: the guy pressing fresh apples to make apple cider. Growing up, there was a mill in Fremont where you could get it fresh pressed, and not pasturized. It's how I grew up with it, and the stuff from the store just doesn't taste right because of it. But this totally tasted right!

We swung by the farm store and picked up a giant zucchini for a whole dollar.

Of course, before we headed out we stopped by the hand washing station..

Overall, we had a great time!

Back at home, we relaxed some. I've been playing 2048 again, and doing pretty good (You guys, I have since gotten up to 16,000!)

We had a uber eats coupon code and tried to order some wawa subs to be delivered. But, our delivery guy sucked and took almost an hour to get here AFTER he picked up the food. I was so excited for my Gobbler, but it was totally soggy by the time it got here. Bummer. (We did end up getting it for free though, so all was not lost).

After all that, we headed down to the pool to cool off. The water isn't like taking a bath anymore!

Later that evening, we ran out real quick and Ellie came along for the ride. I promise she likes going for car rides, even though she looks like she doesn't.

Sunday was, of course, football day. BUT, they were playing games in London, so we decided to get up early to watch the game and put out the taco bar. But nobody wants normal tacos at 9:30 AM, so instead we made a breakfast taco bar for the morning- complete with ground sausage, eggs, and potatoes.

A screwdriver was totally appropriate as an accompaniment. We changed over to normal tacos around lunch time. But, I never actually had any- because I filled up on breakfast ones.

The Bucs were a 1pm game, a rarity for us (and of course they beat the Dolphins!) So by the 4pm games we were not so interested in them anymore. We left Red Zone on and played some games. Etta was happy to get in on the action.

Monday we had planned on going to Honeymoon Island, but I checked and there were medium levels of Red Tide, so we decided to do something else: go window shopping... AT THE MALL. We haven't been shopping at the mall since before Covid. So, we nosed around there for a bit.

And then we went up to Groves to try out a place that's been on my list for while now: King of the Coop.

They have Nashville hot chicken. You can get it as tenders or various sandwiches. I got the pimento cheese one, with hushpuppies.

We made mine a meal, too, for just $1.50 more you get a drink and some banana pudding!

Asa meanwhile, got some mac and cheese on his. It was SO good. Better than PDQ for sure. We will be back (in fact, I think we're going on Friday when we have errands to run up that way).

The Groves is still kind of in their transition, but they're coming along. The container park is all in place, but there is just one shop open: Provisions Coffee. We stopped by to get a couple of iced coffees (Gideon's has transformed me into someone who apparently likes iced coffee... crazy right?)

Back at home we hit the pool again- we were the only ones there!

Calib came home, and apparently had picked up a Little Ceasar's Pizza for him and Peyton.

And then Calib was nice enough to run out to try and get us a few things from the store- but they were out of all kinds of things, which resulted in Calib video calling us from Publix.

Next Up: Heading to Jacksonville for HAMILTON!!!!
