Most of you have already heard the big Waterstraut household news, but it's worth noting: Asa got promoted! We learned about it a couple of weeks ago. Just a random unassuming Wednesday. The promotion became official on the 11th, so I could finally post about it. He's not just any old program mentor anymore, he's a Senior Program Mentor now! This is awesome because he loves his job, and now he gets paid more to do it. Plus you know, added responsibility. As long as he has students, he's happy to do whatever. We're all super excited for him, and proud of him, of course. So, if you see him around, Congratulate him accordingly. He just loves Congratulations.
Our neighbor, T'Ola took us out to celebrate the Sunday before it became official. We went to First Watch (apparently there's a new one by the old house with outdoor seating), and she introduced us to a Purple Haze. This rivals Teddy Tea as one of my favorite summer drinks! Thanks, T'Ola! We had a great time!
That same day another neighbor, Teresea, brought us some leftover award-winning chili from the chili cookoff down at the lodge.
Our other neighbors were out of town for a long weekend. So, we enjoyed watching and cuddling a plethora of boxers. Huck is the OG, and I love him to pieces. But, I'm becoming quite fond of new-comer Archie. Though, Murphy is always a good time too.
Calib let them out for us several times overnight, since he's sleeping schedule is practically the opposite of ours. But he also gave Porkchop a look over the fence, which got the boxers all very excited.
They are all very good boys. We're happy to watch them anytime!
Speaking of the pups. We also celebrated Ellie's 10th Birthday. There was the usual pupcakes..
But, she's turning 10, she needs a little something extra special, so she got some ice cream too!
Of course, we don't know her actual birthday. When she was taken to the shelter seven years ago, they gave her an approximate age and listed her birthday accordingly. We still celebrate her listed birthday every year. Etta only spent two weeks at the shelter, so we just celebrate her adoption day. But, Ellie spent six months there before she joined our family, so she gets two celebrations every year. I love the sequencw of pictures I took in trying to get a good one, so I'm posting them all.
Look at her old, grey face. It's funny, she's always been an "old soul" so now her grey just matches her personality.
Of course, Ellie doesn't get the pupcakes all herself. She shares with her puppy siblings, who all get so excited whenever they figure out it's a pupcake day!
In other news, Peyton got some killer boots from Jasmine for his birthday.
And Hayden's been working on fair entries now that we know we are in fact, officially, going to Ohio.
It's his last year for a few categories, since 16 is the cut-off age, so he's really going to town hoping for one last big fair check.
Asa and I made it out to Beasley Farm Market for their monthly market. They are closed most of August, so it was the last one before September. We fed all the animals.. the chicken and goats..
But to our surprise, Bella the cow, wasn't getting any attention way out in the pasture. We litterally called her name, waved some greens in our hand, and she came right over.
I love Bella!
There was a new baby calf too. I don't know their name yet, but they were very sweet too.
Of course we got ourselves a produce box, and some other things, but we also got ourselves a whole box of corn!
62 ears in all for $12 (which for Florida prices, is amazing, I don't know if it compares to Ohio, but I was happy with it!)
It was a lot of shucking, and cutting corn off the cob, but we'll have it forever now, which is great because we throw some in everything from chili to black beans.
Other fun story for you, about 1am in the morning Calib sends Asa a text: "Dad, do you want to make $3?" Asa doesn't answer it because we're old. It's 1 am. And it's THREE dollars. Calib then explained Dipper has massacred a frog out on the back porch, and he didn't want to have to clean it up and he was offering $3 for someone to clean it up besides him.
The next morning Asa cleaned up the frog, but Calib didn't want to pay him the $3 because an "official agreement" was never made. This led to Calib being locked out, and everyone eating his fruit snacks. It was a whole thing.
As always, I'm leaving you with a few dog pictures. However, some need some captions.
Phenom has been getting special "soft food" in his old age ever night before bed. Etta has just discovered this. She got kicked out of our room (where Phenom gets his food) and then stood way back in the doorway and watched with envy. I've zoomed in on the original picture for effect.
Also, Etta has taken to laying on the ground next to the other dogs while they eat. If anything drops, she'll eat it. Even if it drops out of their mouths.
Phenom had a rough day the other day too, so I brought his bed out to the family room to lie down. Instead, Etta just laid in it.
That's it. the rest is just everyone being cute.
Next Up: There are cards and drinks in the blanket fort in my future for the weekend.
