Waterstraut Year in Review

I think the last couple New Year's Eve's, I've tried to post our 'Waterstraut Year in Review'. We aren't really out and about New Years Eve people, since we hate crowds. So, with the exception of some trips to Venice, we try and just hang out at home. Tonight we have a spread of yummy food out to snack on, and we watched a slideshow of pictures of all the fun stuff we did this year. In part to remind the boys of everything before I asked them to write me a paragraph about their favorite thing we did all year. (And I know it's been awhile since we did writing work because Peyton was all 'a WHOLE paragraph?!') Anyway, here's our highlights. There was plenty to choose from.

HAYDEN

My favorite part of the year 2016 is when we went to the Easter Egg Roll in Washington, D.C. I really liked hanging out with the presidential baseball mascots, and doing yoga with Teddy.

PEYTON

My favorite part of 2016 has to be Denver. Specifically the Mile High stadium tour. it had a lot of things going for it like Voodoo Doughnuts, the zoo, the mint, Red Rocks and of course the Rocky mountains. I really liked the place we went to eat in the Rockies too. Also, the scenery was amazing. It was also cool to see snow even though we saw tons of it when we were going back home.
Honorable mention goes to the Easter egg roll and visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for the first time

CALIB

My favorite part of the year was Hallow Scream. It was my favorite because the hotel room was gigantic. All the Rides had essentially no line and Gate Keeper at night was awesome. Plus how can you not like eating pizza in a giant jacuzzi tub and making it float? It was close between that and Denver, but Cedar point rides were to fun plus the giant hotel room is what put it over the edge.
Honorable mention : Denver

Apparently we did a ton of awesome things this year, so this decision was a close one. However, my favorite part of 2016 has got to be the night Corinne and I went on a date in Washington DC. We rented bikes on a whim, rode down to the Wharf and bought some soup, then rode our bikes to the Jefferson Memorial and hung out there. It was such a nice night and plus TJ is super cool, it was just such a different date than we’ll likely go on again for many years, and at least half of it was made up on the fly, but everything went well and the company was wonderful, of course.

I really wanted to give my honorable mention to the Easter Egg Roll, but the top 2 moments of 2016 being 72 hours or less apart seems almost like cheating. There’s also Monticello which I think I lived in during a previous life, the blanket fort which I think I’ll always live in deep in my heart, and buying this house which I’ll live in for approximately 30 or more years. But, if I have to pick one, I think my mentioning will go to graduating college. I know that’s kind of self-serving, but getting a bachelor’s degree was one of the biggest things on that adult list of items “I should do, but just haven’t yet”. Getting a checkmark next to it was awesome, and including it in a Disney weekend right next to Hayden’s birthday and getting an xbox one with my graduation money really wrapped it up nicely.

CORINNE

It's always really hard to pick my favorite part of the year, and I try not to pick the same thing someone else did (I always write mine last). Of course, I loved the Easter Egg Roll. Denver was awesome. We had a pretty good trip to Ohio this fall, but all things political win for me this year. We had the candy bar election, we went to the rallies, and I not only shook the vice president's hand, but also Bill Clinton- which if you know my love for presidents, you would know this was the single most exciting day of the year for me. And I'm throwing in another favorite that didn't get any mentions: The Olympics. All of that was so much fun!

Honorable Mention: The Disney trips! We went in June for our anniversary, which was super awesome. And, we went in July to stay at the Yacht Club and swim in the super awesome pool.

That's it from us, 2016 was pretty good to us. We lived in limbo a lot waiting on this new house, but it was worth the wait. We've already got tons of fun planned for 2017, and we're excited to get to all of that. Thanks for reading another year of my blog! I'll leave you with some pictures that didn't quite make it into our favorites.

Next Up: Ringing in 2017!
