Day One: And They're Off!

It's been years of talking about this trip, at the time the summer of 2017 seemed really far off. But, yesterday we headed out. After the disaster that was getting to Alaska, I knew I wanted to go somewhere on the west coast, even if just for a few days, to help with the time adjustment and the travel time. I pretty much kept every option open- and when it came time for booking, we went with the cheapest one. So, it was Las Vegas for us. Our flight left right about 6 o'clock last night.

We like sitting in the last row, if we can nab it, and for the most part we had a pretty easy flight. A few bumps here and there, but our pilot was awesome with the announcements of things like 'It'll be slightly bumpy for the next 15 minutes, and then we'll go back to smooth sailing', which this girl who gets motion sick really appreciates.

We landed in Vegas around 7:30, Vegas time. The boys have had a layover at this airport, but they've never actually been to Nevada outside the airport, so this counts as a new state for them. Asa went to get the rental car, while we collected our luggage. We're just missing the big heat wave, but it still really hit us as soon as we walked outside. Plus, we're so used to the humidity we all immediately felt like fish out of water- and needed chapstick and bottled water asap!

We gave the boys a couple of options for hotels. There were some of the kid friendly hotels on the strip we were looking at, or there was a place a little outside the strip called Green Valley Ranch. They were having a deal when you booked two nights you could get a cabana at the pool for an extra $30. The boys thought the cabana sounded awesome, and weren't too sure about the strip, so the Green Valley Ranch it was. It was a quick 15 minute trip or so from the airport, and we had a nice easy check in. Our room is just a two queen bed room, but we have a nice view of the pool and the strip off in the distance.

And we do have a little bit of the Vegas fancy room.

Our bathroom even has fancy double doors!

When we arrived our room was already turned down for us, complete with chocolates on our pillows.

Hayden is the odd man out in hotels, but we did bring along his little camping pad, and it fit nicely between the closet doors and the bed.

We ate some snacks I had packed on the plane, but everyone was pretty hungry. With an In-N-Out Burger a mile away, Asa was happy to take Peyton and Calib and go pick it up for everyone. The boys were super excited, this was their very first In-N-Out experience, and they were not disappointed.

We tried to stay up a little later, because the whole point in being here is to help time adjust, even a bit. So we watched some TV, and charged up our stuff for the morning.

Next Up: The Hoover Dam! And the cabana!
