Day 267: Saturday, December 5th
Asa and I started out the day going for a bike ride. Apparently we're getting a Zaxby's at the front of the subdivision. Weird choice. But, ok.
We took a long ride that day- lovely day outside.
And came home for some brunch. Yay Mickey Waffles. One of our best investments in quarantine was that Mickey Waffle maker!
And then we decided it could be chrusciki day! So every year the Ainsworth side of the family since my mom was a kid made these cookies. Everyone gets together every year to make them- but this year, because of the Pandemic, that just wasn't possible. Mom is sort of the cookie-ring leader (east coast anyway, Aunt Patti runs things on the west coast), so where she goes chrusciki day goes. We were thinking about our options of when to do them and just decided on today! It was the least planned out cookie day ever.
I did get a new pasta maker out of the deal. Though, I haven't made homemade pasta yet.
So you roll the dough out first. (The kids all had to be taught this, they haven't made it to Ohio for a chrusciki day in YEARS).
Then cut it into strips and fold them through.
And repeat that process over and over again.
Then someone fries them, and someone puts powdered sugar on them.
Peyton got the powdered sugar easy job to being with.
But he later got the upgrade to fryer. Shout out to my awesome neighbor Teresa for letting us borrow her electric frying pan. Asa loved it so much, I got him one for Christmas.
So we all worked away.
And Etta was so sad we made her leave the kitchen.
But there was work to be done.
And I was most excited I got to eat a chrusciki freshly cooked. That's been a long time too (they do not ship all that well).
Calib did have a little trouble on the rolling. You know, I was working with a bunch of amateurs.
It took us about an hour, and by then Ellie was also upset she got shut out of the kitchen.
Hayden was a bit better on the roller station than Calib.
But, you know, at least they all helped with minimal complaints.
A tray to be fried...
Almost done!
And we're done!
By the time we were finished, Ellie had moved to sleeping on the couch.
And we were all rewarded for our cookie efforts by the ceremonial pizza dinner that always accompanies chrusciki day.
That night the punch was super fun. A timed Christmas obstacle course.
First you wrap a gift.
Then you down some Christmas cookies.
As fast as humanly possible.
Then you have to get dressed for your evening out (in a National Lampoons Christmas vacation onsie).
And then you need to decorate the tree.
Peyton was up next.
And then Calib (But I took video of his).
That night it was so nice outside we decided to have a fire and make some smores.
We love the new fire pit!
We finished up the night with some games.
Day 268: Sunday, December 6th
A football Sunday wouldn't be a football Sunday without Etta begging for food.
But we also discovered the microwave had gone kaput on us. Well, sort of. You had to smack the handle or jiggle it to try and get it to work. We ordered a new one ASAP hoping it would come with the new oven, but it didn't quite work out that way.
Our game that night was the paper plate drawing game.
Some do better than others here.
Most of it ends up looking like a mess.
But it's still a good time.
Day 269: Monday, December 7th
A usual Monday = nothing too fun going on. But, we did get a fun package from Clint with some treats and some new games.
Day 270: Tuesday, December 8th
Another cold day.
It was also the day we got our first misfits box. Because, apparently now we're order produce in the mail type of people.
It's a pretty cool service actually. We're eating more veggies and different kinds than we were in the last couple months. It's hard to vary so much when you just keep ordering the same things on instacart.
We also did Franklin Pierce's birthday. So, here's Hayden's drawing.
I came across Peyton sitting in front of the office door like Etta does, and I thought it was funny.
And my customary Franklin Pierce picture.
Happy Birthday to our most obscure president!
Day 271: Wednesday, December 9th
It was finally new oven day after over a month of waiting!
Look at that nice smooth flat top with FIVE burners!
And of course, the double ovens. (Asa vacuumed it out because it had Styrofoam in it).
So, our last oven took nearly 40 minutes to preheat to 350 degrees. This one takes five minutes. It's nuts.
That afternoon we ran out to pick up some curbside stuff and Asa and I split a cookie at cumbl.
I think I'm getting used to this mask wearing, though. It's WAY nicer in the winter than the summer.
We also swung by the library to pick up Hayden's travel book bundle.
And Asa and Calib played the Madden Superbowl.
For our activity, we decorated a gingerbread mansion.
Grandma gave them all some extra frostings and candies and such.
She was busy in the kitchen making cookies.
Hayden and Calib both decorated a side.
And I hung out with Porkchop.
Hayden took a long time on his side.
Look at Etta begging for cookies.
Hayden's side was impressive when it was all done.
Calib argued his was better because it had a 'theme', which he said was 'green'.
We were behind a punch that night too, so we also did snowman races.
Peyton and Asa were victorious.
Next Up: Finding the ugliest tree
