Day 281: Saturday, December 19th
I got whipped cream and cinnamon in my coffee!
And flowers in my room. Asa was spoiling me. (The holidays are a lot of work, so I totally deserved it!)
Grandma was still busy baking. But she does enjoy using my awesome kitchenaid mixer.
And Asa worked on making some Lemoncello out of Lemon peels and vodka.
But mostly, Saturday was open bar day. I set up a whole little restaurant with drinks.
And food.
And my customers ring the bell for service.
And order anything they want off the menu.
It's even two sided!
Hayden also had a Zoom Gaming event through the library where they played Among Us.
And then I opened up for everyone to order. Mom has never been here for an open bar, so this was her first experience with it.
The only "charge" is a picture with your food, so I have a lot of those...
This is everyone trying the Lemoncello (A little on the sweet side).
Hayden was following all proper safety precautions, and showed up to order in a mask.
Which proved a little tricky for eating.
I wore my mistletoe headband to be festive while I served everyone.
At one point Hayden showed up to measure out six feet.
But mostly we spent Saturday eating and drinking, a lot.
Hayden helped me out and did fort keeping that day though.
I called last call around 8:30.
All my orders...
Day 282: Sunday, December 20th
Worked on another puzzle.
This was one of the weird shaped pieces ones. Those are really growing on me, but we only have one left.
Still, I liked this one a lot.
That night we played One Word, but with Christmas words I made up. People did pretty good, but grandma couldn't get Home Alone even with the clues: Movie, Traps, and Marv.
Day 283: Monday, December 21st
The first day of winter meant it was time to put away in the winter mugs in favor of the fall mugs!
But it also things are getting worse and worse here in Florida. Look at all the counties in red. And see all those CDC recommended actions, Florida is literally doing NONE of those.
So, I wouldn't say it's going well.
But hey, new coffee mugs and more whipped cream and cinnamon!
New combination of walkers for the after lunch walk.
And for our punch, I made reindeer cookies. Super easy: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter, 1 egg.
Cook at 350 for 8-10 minutes and then decorate.
We also had a special delivery from a neighbor, not only did they contribute lids to our project.
But, Teresa also made us homemade red velvet cupcakes, which were delicious!
And totally professional looking.
Mom wanted to watch It's a Wonderful Life, so we did that while Asa was working (he hates it), but Hayden was willing to watch it with us- if we watched it in color instead of black and white (Amazon Prime Video has both versions!)
That night, Asa, Hayden and I went for a Christmas Light Bike Ride.
Another neighborhood in my subdivision built a walk thru tunnel of lights.
And other houses had some great photo ops.
But there's a massive house in the next subdivison over that really goes over the top.
We also spotted a countdown Santa.
Day 284: Tuesday, December 22nd
Our new microwave arrived- now it matches the stove. Both of them actually work. Nice, right?
And the light is something!
And another Tuesday means another misfits box
All good stuff!
I did need a little more wrapping paper. Told my instacart shopper any wrapping paper will do. I ended up with Frozen and Mermaids. Guess the boys didn't mind too much, they never said anything about it.
It also marked five years since Ellie had joined our family. So naturally we had to celebrate our Ellie-versary. She got pupcakes with whipped cream and bacon bits.
I also can't believe that she's been part of our family for five years. She's come so far, and I love her squishy face so much. You never would have guessed the shy timid girl we adopted at the shelter would turn out to be such a polite, rough and tumble outdoorsy dog.
She enjoyed her pupcakes.
And got a new toy for her present.
Our activity for the day was a coloring page, which we judged for 1st and 2nd place. (Peyton didn't do one- which is why Calib and Hayden thought they were being funny by both writing Peyton at the bottom of theirs).
Ellie meanwhile got some extra snuggles.
And then snuggled up with her new toy.
She chewed on it a bit, and then fell asleep with it. The sign of a good gift for a dog.
Later that evening we went for a drive to see some Christmas lights.
And then grandma treated us to a stop at McDonalds.
Day 285: Wednesday December 23rd
Found this on my morning walk with ellie.
Then, since we were house sitting for the neighbors (and watching their dog too) we went over to eat by the pool.
And some of us were brave enough to get in.
It was a throwback to our summer days when we'd order Blaze pizza and eat by the pool.
But again, colder.
Some of us just dipped our feet in.
But it's nice to get out and have a change of scenery anyway.
Hayden was braver than the rest of us.
Check out Peyton at the pool in his fuzzy socks.
Told you, cold. 62ish.
And Calib eventually got in too.
Peyton found a cool orchard spider to take pictures of.
And at the end of the pool trip, Calib jumped in for an early stocking gift.
After everyone was warmed up, we played 2020 Jeopardy for Christmas Bucks.
Categories included:
Places we didn't go
things that didn't happen
People we didn't see
food we stress ate
crazy stuff we heard
for 73 glorious days (you know, before covid)
and march madness.
Final Jeopardy was about the election
then we had movie afternoon.
complete with snacks. We watched Klaus on Netflix, I highly recommend. Peyton found it and told us about it. Super good.
Then Asa hosted Jeopardy.
the dogs got their leftover cake.
And we all went on a long walk to see Christmas lights.
The crazy house even had a snow machine going.
So we got snowed on!
