Happy 39th Birthday, Asa!

On Friday March 25th, Asa turned 39. He's such a baby, he's still got a whole year left in his 30s! He wanted a low key birthday, but he also realized he can have as many low key days as he wants, really. So, he thought maybe since mom was here we could do some activity. After waking up and enjoying his morning coffee with the dogs, he was ready to go. (Also look he got all four of them to chill!)

We went out for a game of Putt Putt at Plantation Palms. It's something to do, and it's super close. We are getting a few more Land O Lakes/Wesley Chapel Putt Putt spots soon. That Pop Stroke place should be built by the fall (which as slow as things have been going lately- maybe winter), and there's a new adventure golf coming to the Grove. But for now, Plantation Palms is the only one around us.

Mom claimed she wouldn't be very good- and then got a hole in one on the very first hole.

It was a really nice day out. Not a cloud in the sky, and the perfect temperature. (I know those days are numbered!)

When we got to the second to last hole- Calib's ball got stuck in the river. Now, the river is a legit strategy on this one, as it will dump you off near the hole after it goes downstream. But his got stuck, and he insisted if we just waited long enough- it would catch in the current and make it's way down. As they were all standing there staring at it, I took my putt- which promptly bounced off Asa's foot and landed in the hole. It was my only hole in one- and it was hilarious. It actually helped me win the whole thing.

After lunch we swung by Mulligan's Pub (also at Plantation Palms) for some lunch. Asa was super excited to see fish tacos and a giant pretzel on the menu.

Plus, we got to eat out on the patio, which was super nice.

All in all, a lovely outing for the birthday boy.

When we got home, a gift had arrived for Asa in the form of a package on the front porch.

Of course it was from Nate and Allison, and it was fancy alcohol.

Asa made himself a drink in his birthday cup. And since he's not as much a birthday cake kind of guy, we put a candle on that instead (We did get cheesecake for his cake- but then everyone was so full we didn't even have it ON this birthday!)

The new Mario Kart tracks came out too, so we got that and did all the new races. I thought we could get really good at them and then when Peyton got home we could smoke him- but turns out he's been playing them in the UK. So, no such luck.

Mom said she'd be happy to get Asa whatever he wanted for dinner. People weren't super hungry, so I suggested pizza. Plus, it was Friday so mom couldn't eat meat. It was the perfect solution. But rather than go with Papa Johns, Asa wanted to try out the Pizza Pie- a new-ish place that opened on 41. I went down there with him, and we discovered they also sell pizza by the slice. It'd be a perfect bike ride lunch!

When we got home, Cort and his family were Facetiming with mom to say Happy Birthday to Asa, so when we walked in, she handed off the phone.

Dinner was actually really good. The guys got some meat lovers pizza, and mom and I got the veggie. We also got a piece of Limoncello cake, which was delightful. Plus then we did get to have cake on Asa's birthday.

We finished up the evening with games of Asa's choice, including Sheriff of Nottingham.

And then some more video games.

The next day we did watch Turning Red, which Asa also wanted to do on his birthday- but we kind of ran out of time. We enjoyed it, but it's not one of our favorites. Better than Raya. Probably about as good as Luca. Not much re-watchability in it, but glad we watched it.

And for dinner, we had a characuterie and grilled some hot dogs over the fire.

That's it for Asa's birthday. Here's to one more trip around the sun in his 30s. I think I'll really feel old when Asa hits 40!

Next Up: A long-awaited trip to Venice.
