Day 6: Lighthouse Point

Despite the kids flying in late Tuesday night, we were up bright and early Wednesday to head up to Sandusky for a trip to Cedar Point. Jake came over right after breakfast with some red bulls to help us check out and get our stuff to the car.

Since Asa and I got to ride around in the convertable all day on Tuesday, we thought it only fair everyone else got to ride in it with Jake to Cedar Point.

Asa and I, meanwhile, took the rental car and documented the sights of rural Ohio, while playing the popular game we invented called "church, cemetary" (where you just keep passing one or the other).

But hey, check out those temperatures Ohio has this time of year!

We made it to Cedar Point before lunch, but we still had to get our passes sorted out. Last time we were there in 2019, we upgraded our day passes to season passes- which were to be valid in 2020. Then, of course, the park didn't open like normal in 2020, because 2020. So, they extended everyone's 2020 passes to 2021. When it was obvious we weren't coming in 2021, I emailed them to see if there was anything they could do for us (truth be told, I was just hoping for like a one day comp ticket in a best case scenerio), but to my suprise, they offered to extend our passes through 2022. Still, it wasn't so easy when we got to guest services. It took them close to an hour to figure it all out. The poor kid working on it was SO nervous, I just knew he had been chewed out a lot. I kept telling him it was cool, we were fine, I'm sure they'd figure it out. And, eventually they did, we had our passes, and we made our way in.

Everyone decided to hit the Gatekeeper first, while I stayed behind with the pile of cell phones and wallets.

It wasn't long, though, before my mom arrived and it was time to check into our cottage at Lighthouse Point. So, Asa and I broke from everyone else to head back to the car. We couldn't help but stop by the old Sneak Peeks on our way.

I was a bit jealous of everyone else though. They got to stay in the park for some mini corn dogs and cheese fries (My favorite!)

But we meant up with mom and got all checked in to our cottage at Lighthouse Point, which is walking distance from the park (we also got cabin 17- easy for me to remember!)

The cottages are nice, but not super big. They have a bedroom with a double bed and a set of bunk beds, and a futon in the living room, plus one bathroom, and a mini kitchen area with a tiny drige, a microwave and a sink.

We like them mostly for their proximity to the lake, you have a nice little deck that faces the water (we even spotted some snakes sunning themselves on the rocks).

There's a new edition since we last stayed at the cottages: screen doors! This is super helpful to keep bugs out, but it does obstruct the view a bit, so I have mixed feelings about it.

I requested a cottage just across from the pool area. With only one bathroom, if you need to use the facilities when someone else is in there, you can walk across to the pool area. It's handy to be in the same area as the campers! There's all kinds of added amenities (I even used the dryers to dry my swimsuit!). That same area puts you out by the pier to walk out on as well.

By now, Asa and I were starving, so we were lucky mom had all kinds of food and snacks for us.

We met back up with everyone, who had just come off Steel Vengeance. Hayden's hair was awfully windblown, which we all thought was pretty funny. But, good for him for going on all the new rides! Since we had been at Universal with everyone in June, Hayden decided he was going to try the big coasters at Cedar Point. (He swore he wasn't going to go on things like Millenium and Magnum- but spoiler alert, he ended up doing it all).

Hayden did pass on the Skyhawk, though, which is one of Asa's favorite.

So he hung out with me and mom as we watched from the sidelines.

And even though Hayden is beyond the Mine Ride these days, we did go on it for old times sake, and sent a picture of the trash can in cousin chat to Bridgette (if you know, you know).

We were lucky to hit Maverick right when it was opening from being down, so they didn't have to wait too long for that. Hayden loved Maverick, and had the line ever been shorter, I'm sure he would have gone on it over and over again.

Meanwhile, mom and I made our way up to to the barn to visit with the animals.

She even bought me hay to feed the animals.

However, I spent all my hay on the horses, not realizing the llamas and camels would have eaten some too.

By now Hayden was realizing he did really like coasters, so he was going to try Millenium Force. This one is a serious hill, so I was surprised he was backtracking on his hard pass on Millenium.

But he did it, and he loved it!

Sadly, Top Thrill Dragster has been closed for the entire season, Peyton was very sad about this. Hayden swears he would have gone on it, had it been opened.

As the afternoon began to wind down, we headed back to the cottages for dinner.

We did debate between Hotel Breakers or Lighthouse Point (both of the resorts on Cedar Point property), but ultimately decided on the cottage because it was cheaper, and you can cook dinner there- because you have your own grill (and the mini fridge and microwave). Mom had brought along brats and hot dogs and all kinds of sides.

Plus of course, the views, which we took in as we waited for dinner.

After dinner, we all headed back into the park for an evening of fun. I even got everyone to go on Windseeker with me! We stayed until close (some of us even past close) riding all the rides.

And then everyone got themselves tucked in for the night. A successful first full day in Ohio for the kids.

Next up: More Cedar Point!
