Draft Pizza & Picks!

Asa's schedule has changed and he has to work 6 ten hour shifts in a row. It's not been ideal. But, due to a swap, most of it has been from home. Which meant he was here for this weekend's NFL Draft. Back when we had season tickets, we'd go to the draft party at the stadium, a couple of years ago, we just decided to stay home and make the NFL Cities inspired pizzas like we have for Championship weekend, but for the first four draft picks.

This year, however, the first four would mean two dessert pizzas, and that just seemed like a lot. So I proposed we do the first six picks, with three for the first night of the draft, and three for the second night. The boys love these pizzas, so they were pleased with that idea.

For night one of the NFL Draft, we had...

The first pick... the  Cleveland Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza

It's a pizza crust with normal sauce, ground beef (with steak seasoning), bacon, red onion and cheese.

The traded up for second pick... Chicago 3-Cheese Sausage Pizza.

This one is sauteed mushrooms, peppers and sausage with normal pizza sauce on an original crust pizza and three different types of cheeses.

I must have missed a San Fran only picture- but it was basically a buckeye on top of a pizza with peanuts and pretzels on top.

We never had Cleveland or Chicago's pizzas before, and honestly, I wasn't looking forward to them (we had San Fran before, so I knew it would be good).

But they were both really, really good. The Chicago pizza was very similar to eating a fully loaded sausage sandwich, and while the Cleveland one didn't blow me away, it was better than I thought it would be.

Calib and Asa also wanted to make a draft board with all the mock drafts like they had in the past (they get REALLY draft obessed, so much so when we were out a few days before hand, Hayden finally said 'Can we talk about something besides the draft?")

We don't have the big glass doors to tape things to, so I made them these little half pieces of paper for our french doors. Now, I'm posting these here, because people get hardly any of them right- and every year Asa and Calib talk about it like the mock drafts like they're gospel. So next year, when I tell them this is ridiculous, I can pull this up. (Not that they'll listen to me anyway). Just scroll down if you're here for the pizzas, and ignore my documentation.

Oh, and Calib got about as many right as I would have. He had a whopping one pick correct.

Friday night was the second round of the draft so we made the pizzas for the NFL teams that held the 4th thru 6th picks the night before.

The number 4 pick.... the Jacksonville Fruit Tart.

I do this one totally different than the recipe. Instead of using the Boboli pizza crust, I make my own crust using yellow cake mix. I just add one less egg and less water than the recipe says to add- then I spread it out over a foil covered pizza pan, and just bake it until a toothpick comes out clean in the middle. Then I frost it with a little extra sweetened whipped cream (this time we whipped our own- but you can use cool whip), topped with fruit. Peyton likes this one so much, it's been his birthday cake before.

The number five pick..... the Tennessee Fried Chicken Pizza

This one is amazing, but oh so bad for you. It's a normal crust, country gravy for the sauce, mashed potatoes, chopped chicken tenders, a little cheese and topped with scallions. I buy almost all pre-made stuff, otherwise it would be very labor intensive. I even pick two chicken tenders up from the Publix deli to make it easy on myself. It also says to use an original crust, but we do a thin crust, to just to make it a little lighter. But it is delicious.

And the number six pick... New York Hot Dog Pizza

This one has a mayo and brown mustard mixture for the sauce, and it is topped with grilled hot dogs and grilled onions, then topped with cheese.

The Tennessee one is a favorite here, but the second night got even better reviews than the first night.

I am nearly caught up with my blogs, I just have our usual 'what we've been up to', complete with a Disney day trip.
