Welcome to our Day 2 of the 2020 Summer Games! Since technically the real Olympics hadn't held their opening ceremonies yet, we were still ahead of the game (and there were no events for the boys to bet on).
But, we got going with our first medal event of these games... Swimming!
And, there might not have been anything to bet on, but there was a spotlight country to guess at. Today's country was Egypt! And everyone got it correct (they've told me these are way too easy), and they all chose to add Egypts medal totals to theirs at the end of the games, instead of getting an advantage in the swimming event. In case you're confused how this all works, you can check out my last blog from the Opening Ceremonies, and I explained it all.
I'm not sure if they boys have figured it out, but I chose the Spotlight countries in part because they were meals we all gave
five spoons up back during out country project. I tried to pick at least a couple from each continent, and I tried to pick ones where they weren't predicted to have too many medals (so nobody would have too big of an advantage).
So, for Egypt, we
recreated our country meal from 2017 and had
Egyptian Meatballs,
Egyptian Koshari, Egyptian Tomato Salad
Our events aren't exactly spot on replicas. Sure, we could go down to the pool and have races. But, we do that all the time. So, for our swimming event they had pool squirters and a bucket full of water, and they had to use those pool squirters to get a rubber duck through a course I created in a baby pool.
The duck had to cross through the orange cones...
Go through the tunnel of flags...
Under the pool noodle arch...
And through the yellow diving ring
They had to do two laps, and were timed from the time they crossed the orange cones until they did two laps and crossed the cones as the finish line. Fastest time won.
Calib took a go at it...
Then Peyton...
And finally Hayden.
And your 2020 Swimming Gold Medalist is...
Time to collect their medals..
On the podium..
The first event is officially in the books.
They all banked some money, and got the first country correct. Not bad for the first day.
And, here's where the Olympians stand after the first day of competition.
