We've been doing the Waterstraut Olympics for TEN years now! Mostly on the 4th of July. But, you know, we've also been places on the 4th- like Hawaii- so sometimes they've been postponed. Still, ten years. That's something.
But, those olympics don't just run themselves. Someone has to put together all the medals (a few water events can be candy medals. But the Frozen T-shirt contest must be a "real" one).
For our ten years, I decided to make it a little special by making some bleach pen shirts.
Sadly, bleach pens aren't really a thing anymore. So, I got some toilet bowl cleaner people said worked and put it in a squirt bottle.
You can't make it really fine print though, so I decided just to put the years that the boys won the frozen tshirt contests on their shirts.
And then I rinsed them off.
Of course, there were other events to get together too.
And medals to make.
But once the t-shirts had been rinsed, washed and dried, I folded them all THE EXACT SAME WAY, so nobody would have an advantage.
And then I filled them in their bags.
And into the freezer they went.
I set up the podium (a simple one since we had to carry it next door).
Our first event was basically floating beer pong.
which of course means you need drinks.
Hayden beat Calib in their match.
And Peyton beat me.
The gold medal match between Peyton and Hayden.
And our winners.
The next event was a take on emoji ball with water squirters.
And our medalists.
And then we did the "spell the longest word" challenge, where we put all kinds of pool noodle letters in the pool (along with other various floatation devices to make it a little more difficult.
Hayden was the winner.
Our medalists
And then time for the frozen tshirt contest.
You'll notice there is five, so for the first time I competed too.
We all got to work trying to free our tshirt from it's frozen block of ice.
And per usual, Asa (who doesn't play for a medal) was the winner.
But, in a total surprise--- I got mine on second!
Not bad for my first try.
But no medal for me, either. So the boys were still fighting for gold. And Hayden got his shirt free first... For the first time since the SECOND annual Waterstraut Olympics. He'd been on the longest drought.
So he was pretty excited.
Down to Peyton and Calib.
And Peyton got his shirt free first. I didn't make him put it on, because we actually did it on his birthday instead of the 4th (Calib had the day off, and Peyton hates putting the cold shirt on. So once it was free, we called it good enough for the silver.
Calib, oddly enough, has only ever won the bronze or the gold. You're either first or last. Literally. If you're Calib in this event.
And the 2021 Frozen Tshirt Medalists.
On the actual 4th of July it was our last day with the pool. So we had a nice charcuterie lunch over there.
And got in one last time with the pool.
For dinner, we made some traditional bbq stuff at home, but also did a pick up for some food from Hungry Harry's.
And then we settled in for a long night of Etta freaking out at fireworks. She does so poorly, we didn't even try and go out and do sparklers. We thought it best not to leave her alone.
So, that does it for the 10th Annual Waterstraut Olympics. If you're worried about waiting a whole other year for Waterstraut Olympics, never fear. Somehow I've gotten the boys to do the summer games with me again this year. (Medals may be money, though, so that might have something to do with it!) So, stay tuned for that. I'm actually trying to get the blog caught up so I can get to the Olympics while they're on going.
