2020(1) Summer Games Day 14: Boxing & Weightlifting

Welcome to Day 14 of our Olympics! Today's events: Boxing and Weightlifting..

And our Spotlight country: Bahamas!

Now, when we did the Bahamas back during the country project, we had jerk shrimp. But, apparently we didn't have as much shrimp as I thought. But, we did have some popcorn shrimp and coconut shrimp in the freezer, so I just went with that.

But we did make the Peas and Rice (just a little modified- we used actual peas instead of blackeyed peas)

And the very yummy (more dessert-y) Banana Bread.

All in all, a delicious dinner.

On to the Weightlifting event: build your own "weights" and lift them.

We did this one back in 2016, and it was hilarious how terrible Calib was at it. I was prepping for this to happen again (it didn't- and nobody else remembered how terrible he was- the link is proof!)

Anyway, you build the weights with some pretzel rods, some gummy lifesavers, and some keebler fudge cookies. The pretzel rod is the middle, then you have to put on a lifesaver, a cookie and a lifesaver on each side.

First one to put two together and lift them was the winner.

Calib and Peyton both had an advantage, for guessing the Bahamas correctly, so they started with one partially put together.

But, Peyton was the fastest.

Followed by Calib.

And then Hayden, who made a good effort despite being the only one without an advantage.

Your 2020 Weightlifting Champs.

Next up, it was time to dust off the Rock Em Sock Em Robots for Boxing.

We did it bracket style. Hayden beat Calib in the first round.

And Asa beat Peyton.

Calib offered money for Peyton to throw it, but Peyton refused. Too bad for him, he lost anyway, and Calib went home with the bronze.

The gold medal match was hard fought (we actually did a best of three matches for all of them)

But Asa came out the winner, leaving Hayden with the silver.

Calib then asked me if there was any chance he could at least do archery since he missed it. I told him I wouldn't take away anyone's medals, but he could win an additional medal based on how well he did compared to our scores from the day before.

Technically, he wouldn't have gotten on the podium (I had the bronze with 39)

But Asa and I only competed because he wasn't there, so I gave him the Bronze. Also, Hayden got a tennis participation bronze that same day when Asa and I both beat him, so it all evened out.

Nobody got anything on their Weightlifting bets either. The gold medal went to Georgia, with Iran and Syria earning the silver and bronze, respectively.

A look at the leader board. Calib is still ahead in the medal count, but Peyton is closing in!
