Social Distancing Journal, Days 327 thru 329

It's March, and I'm still behind on blogging for basically all of February. So, get ready for an onslaught of pictures, and not a lot of dialogue.

Day 327: Wednesday, Feb 3

You guys, the Bucs were going to the Super Bowl. And not just any Super Bowl, a Super Bowl being held IN Tampa. For the first time in history a team was playing in a HOME Super Bowl, and it was the Bucs. A year ago, I'm not sure if I would have been more surprised that the Bucs made it to the Super Bowl, or we'd be nearly a year into a global pandemic that would change life as we know it.

Anyway, thanks to said global pandemic, we couldn't celebrate the way we normally would have, if you know, it had been the 'before' times. But, we made do. On this Wednesday we went downtown to see the festivities, stopping at One Buc Place (just across from the stadium) to purchase some Super Bowl goods.

And then we decided to try downtown. It was a colder day, and a Wednesday, so we thought if anytime would be a good time to go downtown it would be Wednesday. It was the first time in a year I had been to Sparkman Wharf.

Aw, look... Stanley (Cup) needs a friend.

As you can see, Sparkman Wharf was basically empty.

But we got some food, and then walked along the Riverwalk, which was all decorated for the Super Bowl. All the events were happening at various parks along the Riverwalk, but we were a bit concerned about crowds (even though capacity was limited).

We decided the best way to see all the Super Bowl festivities would be from our own electric E-boat, which are for rent along the river. You get your own boat, so you don't get much more socially distant than that!

The Jose Gasparilla was also parked out along the river, decorated for the Super Bowl. Sadly, there will be no Gasparilla this year, so this is it for the ship.

We even called ahead to get ourselves the very festive Buccaneers boat!

So we sat down with all our Sparkman Wharf food and enjoyed the view.

Asa got a quick tutorial on driving the boat, and then we were off.

We drove the boat up and down the river, checking out the NFL Experience at Julian B. Lane Park. We actually had tickets to the NFL Experience, but after seeing pictures of the crowds, decided against it. As we drove past, we noticed the Riverwalk up this way was WAY more crowded than down by the Wharf, and the NFL Experience was packed- so we made the best decision. And anyway, you can kind of see the Vince Lombardi Trophy on display way up there.

It was a chilly evening, but we wanted to see everything in the light and the dark, so we booked our trip for around sunset.

The payoff was nice (albeit cold), but it was lovely to see it all, in a nice, safe, socially distanced manner.

As the sun set, we got a whole new view of everything lit up.

The events at Curtis Hixon Park included projections onto the Sykes tower, and we could see those pretty well from our boat.

Overall, a lovely evening for a boat ride, even if we had to bundle up.

After the boat ride, we made our way back along the riverwalk.

And even got to do some shopping at the mobile stores that had popped up. Outside, with no other customers, so pretty Covid-safe.

We did pass the stadium on the way back, and you could tell they were practicing for something- there was music coming (loudly!) from the stadium.

I did nab a magnet from the shop at the Riverwalk, so that was cool.

And Calib got himself a pennant.

Day 328: Thursday, February 4

Superbowl Countdown: 3 days!!

Another cold day, though, so we were all tucked in.

Look how cozy Phenom looks in his sweater.

Pop up stores had come up all around our area, and Calib was on the hunt for a Super Bowl flag, so we went to check it out and found him one.

We also picked up some Moes!

Calib hung his flag in his room, though, he's not actually staying in his room, since grandma is still here.

Day 329: Friday February 5

We decided to have our usual weekly picnic on the front porch.

But Etta was sad she wasn't invited.

My superbowl magnet I had ordered before Wednesday also came in the in mail.

So I added it to my other one.

And I leave you with a cozied in Dipper.
