Sattlers at Disney, Day 1: Jellyrolls

Way back in 2020, my neice's high school band was scheduled to march down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom. But then, you know, 2020. The Milford high school band eventually got rescheduled for MLK Jr. Weekend in 2023. Obviously, when the Sattler's are that close to Land O Lakes, we take part in whatever they're up to. We had booked a couple of cabins at Fort Wilderness for the event, and then days before, I could tell Cort was coming- because there was a drastic shift in the weather. As much as I tease Cort about how he brings the cold weather, it's uasually visitors in general (notably, Jake is coming to visit next Thursday when the next cold front comes through). Anyway, we packed our warm gear and headed over to Disney after Asa got out of work on Friday and mom finished her meeting.

Peyton stayed behind the first couple days of the trip to be a dog nurse (and to soak up the quiet), but mom (who was still here from Christmas), Asa, Calib, Hayden and I got all checked in, picked up the golf carts, and met up with Sattlers (minus Gwen who was with her band, obviously) and Holly's mom, Joann, who was also there to see Gwen. Garrett decided he'd rather stay in our cabin than the grandma's and his parents cabin next door, and we were glad to have him.

The nice part about the cabins is the full kitchen it comes with- so it's easy to make whatever you want. I got to getting the Sangria mixed, and Hayden got to an afternoon snack of Mac and Cheese, which Asa and Garrett raced to finish.

Despite the fact it was cold, Holly suggested we go down to the hot tub. I was happy to drive the golf cart on down, so we all piled in.

Surprisingly, despite the chilly temperatures, the water was very warm. Our lodge pool is also heated, but it's never that warm. And of course, the hot tub was pleasent enough (I really should make use of our hot tub down at the lodge during cold weather).

We were the only ones at the pool for the most part though, so Asa, Calib and Garrett inquired if they could play in the kids play area. They were granted permission by a very cold and bundled up lifegaurd who said it was fine as long as they didn't use the slides. This water, however, was not heated. Crazy boys.

They went from the cold water to the hot tub a couple of times, until they were cold enough to just head back to the cabins.

We were heading over to the Boardwalk for dinner, and there was a whole thing about pink shirts (Asa didn't have his really pick shirt, so he was a bit disappointed with his maroon). And then we piled in Cort's van and headed over.

We were a bit early for our dining reservation, so we hung out around the Boardwalk, and nosed around the shops, before going to Big River Grill. It was a later dinner for us, so the Waterstrauts just shared some appetizers, but the crab dip was delicious!

Our whole reason for heading over to the Boardwalk was to be able to go to the piano bar, Jellyrolls. Sadly, Jellyrolls is for those 21 and up, so we had to part ways with Garrett and Hayden.

Asa and I walked them over to Hollywood Studios so they could catch the bus, and then I highlighted the map for how to walk from the bus back to the cabin (we had also taken them earlier in the day on the golf cart to show them the way).

Hayden and Garrett successfully made it back to the cabin, while the rest of us spent a couple of hours at Jellyrolls. It's always a good time, and it's been way too long since I have been there (we're talking significantly pre-covid). It was also Calib's very first time there, so that was exciting!

While we had been in Jellyrolls, though, it had gotten significantly colder. We waited while Cort went to get the car, and stayed as warm as possible (Mom is back in the corner there, trying to block the cold wind).

Back at the cabin, we pulled out the couch for me and Asa and gave the kids in the bunks and queen bed back in the bedroom. A fun first night of our three night trip.

Next up: Milford Marches Main Street
