Olympics Day 5: Golf & Shooting

It's Day 5 of the Olympics, and after some stalking of all weather reports, we decided we couldn't do our previously planned activities. So, we changed it up a bit and went with some indoor (or at least covered) activities. And, it's a good thing we did.

We headed out around lunch time, since our first stop included lunch. The easiest way to do golf as an event was to go to Top Golf. Plus, I had free stuff for my birthday!

We can usually fit in two games in our allotted time, but I told the boys we'd just take the scores from the first game. We decided Asa and I wouldn't compete when Asa started killing it, more so than usual. (Asa did however, make me put a gold medal on the board for him, because he had his best top golf score ever- he just didn't count for the boys medals).

I try to line our events up with things happening in Rio as much as possible. And while we were playing our Olympic Top Golf- Rio Olympic Golf was on the TV in our bay! Fun fact: This is the first time in over 100 years golf is being played at the Olympics!

Our two gold medal winners were Calib and Asa. But, we had to wait until we got home for the medal ceremony.

In non-Olympic related news, we stopped by Costco, since we were in Brandon. I need them to hurry up and build the Wesley Chapel one already.

Remember how I said we had to come up with new plans for the day? Well, it's a good thing we did. And it's probably good we did Top Golf as early as possible, because it might be covered, but you can get wet if the rain blows in, and then it's not so pleasant.

Our next stop was back up near home, at the Family Fun Center for some lazer tag, since our event for the day was Shooting. Now, lazer tag didn't count for a medal, but I thought it'd be fun, and fit into the theme of the day. The place was SUPER crowded though, probably because kids here are in their last few days of summer vacation, and it was pouring, so it's not like they could do any outside activity. But, we got in pretty quick, and we all had a good time. And our team won!

When we got home we worked on our country boxes. We were going to make salt dough maps, but when I started making the outline of mine, everyone thought it would be cool to just color them. So they ended up like this. (We free handed them, so don't be too harsh. We did what we could).

They had to draw their country (and surroundings), look up information (like tallest point, largest lake, ect) and mark it on their maps, then color them in.

Hayden did the best drawing his country all on his own.

Peyton colored his like the flags, which I thought was really cool.

And Calib's coloring job was pretty good. Plus he needed the least amount of help looking things up, which was nice.

Asa hasn't done his yet, because he was working on cooking dinner. We're still celebrating Europe here, so tonight we had French Onion Soup (that Asa made from scratch!), Bavarian Meatballs, Peroigies, and Mushy Peas. We did check to see what fruit was in season, and it turns out they're at the tail end of strawberry season.

After dinner we had our second event of the day: Shooting. I took some orange cones, and put glad containers full of water on top. The boys used a nerf gun to knock down the containers of water. The least amount of shots would determine medals.

You'll notice in some pictures, we had an audience again. We don't let the neighborhood kids play for medals, but if it's something we can let them play when we are done, we let them have a try.

Peyton was up first, and got really discouraged that it took him 12 shots.

But he felt way better about it, when it took Calib 36 shots.

I really thought Hayden would see his first gold of the Olympics when he knocked one down right away. But, by the time he'd taken all of Calib's 36 shots, he had only hit two targets.

So, Peyton was the winner with 12.

We held our Golf medal ceremonies first.

And then our shooting medalists.

The Olympic flame is still going strong. Anyone want to guess when the batteries will need replaced?

Oh, and I forgot to include these pictures in the last couple blogs. But, this was Asa and the boys telling me how good of gymnasts they are. (They aren't very good, Calib can't even pull off a summer sault).

The leaders haven't changed since last night, but I haven't looked up medals for our countries today yet, because I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

Next Up: My birthday and the Olympics collide!
