Olympics Day 8 & 9: Basketball & Tennis

I know I've been trying to post every day, but with just one event a day for the last two days, I didn't feel like I had much to share.  Asa's been working (although it is a work from home week), and Calib and Peyton were supposed to go to the lock in at the library tonight. Plus we've had our first week of the Candy Bar Election votes to deal with, so it's been busy- but not necessarily picture/blog worthy.

Yesterday we celebrated South America.

The boys got their South American bag. Five thumbs up on the cookies. But the plantain chips and the corn left something to be desired.

Lunch was awesome though. Along with some goodies from the bag, we had Pigeon Peas and Chivito.  The sandwich was probably my favorite thing we've had all Olympics. It's delicious. It had cubed steak (instead of regular steak- we work with what we have!), cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, prosciutto, onions, peppers, a hard boiled egg, and chimichurri on it. Seriously. We're making this again.

We did our South American trading cards..

And the boys worked on making their bags for their country days. I didn't take any finished pictures, I'll do that when we celebrate their countries. We filled their bags with some items I had picked up from their countries, and some recipes.

Then it was time for our event. Basketball would be too straight forward for our Olympics, and so we did blindfolded free throw shots.

Hayden got to be a little closer than his brothers. But, out of his five shots, he only made one.

Peyton made two.

Asa (who wasn't playing for a medal, but rather just for fun), made all five.

And Calib tied Peyton with two.

So, we did three more shots for a tiebreaker.

And our medalists for basketball...

For dinner we had rice pudding, and guava, along with arepaschimichurri asparagus, and Peruvian Lomo Saltado  Peyton was not a fan of the man dish, because the fries were soggy. But the rest of us enjoyed it. The guava tasted like a canned pear. Asa, Peyton and I didn't mind it, but Calib and Hayden were totally freaked out about the look of it. The arepas, we all agreed didn't have much flavor, and the asparagus was a real winner (for those of us who like asparagus).

Today we moved on to Asia. I intended to have lunch today and dinner tomorrow as Asia before moving on to our countries on Monday. Calib and Peyton were supposed to have the lock in at the library tonight for the summer reading program, but they postponed it (and only let us know just under 2 hours before it was supposed to start- ugh!). So, I hadn't planned on them being available for dinner or lunch tomorrow, and I figure we'd have Asia just span the two days.

I was not feeling great this morning, so my wonderful husband let me sleep while he took Hayden to his build n grow. We've gone to all of them this summer, the three of us, so I felt kind of bad bailing. But, Hayden decided it was fun for just the two of them to go, and then they went to the Rec Center to play at the park and collect Pokemon afterward.

Because of the lock in (and the boys staying up all night), I let them sleep as late as possible. That's why Calib is still in his PJs at lunch time when we opened our Asia bag.

We certainly had enough in the bag to last a couple of days.

For lunch today we had Mie Goreng (Indonesian fried noodles), and some items from our bag. Everything was good except for the green tea. And I usually like green tea.

It was the last of our trading cards today. Calib traded Asa the Philippines and Algeria to do the dishes.

Our event was tennis, and I had picked up a cheap set of rackets and balls for $2 when Target had their summer stuff marked way down. Then I set out some baskets.

Each basket was worth a different amount of points. The boys each had ten balls, and had to stand behind the same free throw line from yesterdays basketball.

I gave them awhile to practice, and Hayden was doing pretty good.

Though for some reason he changed up his strategy when it was time to play for medals. He ended up with one basket for five points.

Peyton killed it, with 19 points.

And this was just one of those that Calib was terrible at.

Hayden got a silver for the first time since Opening Ceremonies Bingo! He's still looking for his first gold, but he certainly takes the gold for sportsmanship. He's been great about where he's placed every single time.

Tonight, we weren't quite sure what to do for dinner, since Asa and I had planned to eat out with Hayden while Calib and Peyton were at the library. Someone suggested Chinese take out, since it totally worked with Asia day, and that was that. I couldn't get a great picture of my fortune, but it was appropriate. It said 'be prepared for a sudden, needed, and happy change in plans.'

I do want to announce, Cuba is no longer medal-less. They got their first silver yesterday, so Hayden's country is finally on the board!

We'll have some Candy Bar Election results up for everyone soon. We have most of the votes in for this week, and tomorrow we'll have a new round of states up. Lots going on here, between the Olympics and the Election!

But for tonight, we're all tucked in on the couch watching the Olympics and hanging out.

Next up: More Asia, and more events!
