And the Chamber of Secrets

Welcome to Day 3 (and Book 2) of Harry Potter week! In case you are a Muggle and have no idea, that means it's Chamber of Secrets Day! The boys woke up to this in their bathroom. (Excuse the messy bathroom, those boys, I tell ya!)

It was a weird day for us, as I had to spend the morning taking Calib to his MOSI class. Since Asa was home, Peyton and Hayden stayed behind to work on their 'Muggle Studies', while I just sat him the VIP Members Lounge Area and worked on my fun facts for the remaining presidents while I waited for Calib.

By the time we got home, and had lunch it was after 1. Peyton and Hayden had already worked on their owl mail, but Calib still had to do his.

Their owls also brought them pebbles (house points for the house cup race) for their work they had sent back out last night.

Hayden, however, has not been on his best behavior, so along with his mail came a howler. (A note from home informing you that you're in big big trouble-- in the book they actually scream at you)

On tap for todays lessons besides Muggle Studies was Herbology (to check on our Mandrakes), Potions, and Transfiguration class.

We also have a new quote from the books/movies each day, and a couple of fun activities. Todays activities were Dobby Socks and Polyjuice potion. Both make their debut in the Chamber of Secrets.

Two things for Transfiguration today: turning a ball of clay into something useful, and turing jello into jello jigglers!

But madness ensued, and the wingardium leviosa spell got pulled out. It was maddness. I grabbed my camera to try and catch some of it, and this is what I got. (I kind of LOVE this picture. Childhood at it's finest, people-- and yes, Peyton is standing on my counter. Things get a little crazy around here sometimes)

We moved onto Potions, making a magical gillywater magnet. All you need is horse hair (string), octopus powder (salt), and frozen gillywater (an ice cube).

If you shake a little salt onto an ice cube it should melt just a little. You put the string on it, and it sticks, then you can lift of the string and the ice comes with it. We had little success with it though.

We mixed up some color potion (tie dye bottles I had gotten awhile ago at Targets dollar spot), and tie dyed some socks in honor of Dobby. They're still sitting though, so I'll have to show you the results later.

In the Chamber of Secrets, Harry has Shephards pie before going to detention one evening. He could barely get it down, but Asa did a lovely job making it-- and none of us were headed to detention-- so we all thought it was delicious.

Then we were on to our polyjuice potion. In case you don't know, when you drink polyjuice potion you turn into someone else temporarily. (Our polyjuice potion was just a float of types- lime sherbert and lemon-lime soda)

Then we played a game- the cup is full of names of people from Harry Potter. The boys had one minute to get us to name as many of them as they could. They'd take a sip and 'turn into' that person, then we'd all guess. If we got it, or if they wanted to give up- they'd drink again to turn into someone else and have us guess again.

After our Polyjuice potion game, we had a Muggle Presidents Pop-Quiz for house points. Calib killed it, and ended up winning tonight's house cup. He got a small piece of Chocolate and 10 real Waterstraut points for winning!

Oh, and our Jello did transform- we have Ohio State jello jigglers AND Oregon ones for the game tonight.

So, Calib's house point jar gets to sit next to the House Cup for the next 24 hours.

I've already gotten their mail together for tomorrow, but I haven't put it out yet. I don't want them to see it all ahead of time.  I'm really excited about tomorrow (The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book!), but Hayden AND Peyton are getting Howlers tomorrow.

Why is Peyton getting one you ask? Well, he won the house cup last night, and was none to happy to not repeat. He was a pretty poor sport about it.

However, he wasn't a poor sport when the Bronco's lost last night. He did surprisingly well with it, and instead of bailing on the last few minutes of the game, he watched it. You know, just in case Peyton Manning does retire at the end of this year, and that was the last time he played. And he said "if this is the last time he plays, at least I got to go see him play". That you did, Peyton. That you did.

And on the upside, we can have a Super Bowl party this year, since nobody is emotionally invested.

Oh, and go Oregon! For so many reasons, but mostly because I am a Mariota fan and crossing my fingers he goes from Duck to Buc!

Up Next: And the Prisoner of Azkaban
