Eggshell Paint Balls & Easter Baskets

Happy Opening Day! We're not big baseball fans around here, but I can appreciate everyone who's excited to see the return of it. We did watch the Rays today, and while it's in the 8th inning, I think we can pretty much call this one over.

In other news, we had a lovely Easter around here. But we really can't wait for this week to be over. So many people are on Spring Break, and it makes going anywhere pretty unbearable for a family who doesn't even deal with normal weekend crowds. After this week, I'm actually planning on going pretty easy on the boys the remainder of April and then May, so we can enjoy all things Florida before the summer crowds arrive, and before it gets too hot.

I had some plans for a couple fun things to do on Easter along with the usual basket/egg hunting. They took very little prep work, which was a welcome change for me. My favorite activity was the paintball eggshells.

I hallowed out some eggs, by breaking the tops and dumping out the egg. Then I just rinsed out the shells with a little soap and water. Hardly took anytime at all. Though, I did decide one dozen didn't seem like enough.

We also colored some eggs. The boys don't like the smell of vinegar though, so we went without it. The eggs were pretty pastel this year as a result.

I got out the whisk for Hayden (he's pretty clumsy).

But then Calib and Peyton complained that they wanted whisks too.

Three dozen minus two. Some might have possibly maybe been forgotten about during the hardboiling phase and exploded.

The boys had a sleepover in Peyton & Hayden's room on Saturday night, and we had to wake them up around 10.

We opted not to put candy in each kids basket this year, I didn't want to deal with getting plastic eggs to put things in, and dividing up all the candy, so there's just one big candy basket that nobody had to find. Side note: I'd been picking up free/cheap candy for a couple weeks with my coupons, and I didn't realize how much I had. It sure was a lot.

Then we went easter egg/basket hunting. In all of the following pictures, you can see at least one egg or basket that eluded the boys.

Calib found the last one in the kettle.

Peyton found his basket first.

Then Calib found his.

And eventually Hayden realized his was in plain sight the entire time.

We had our usual bunny pancakes for Easter brunch.

And then we took our paint eggs outside.

We had one poster board, and we all threw some eggs at it, creating this pretty cool splatter painting. We're going to frame it and find somewhere in the house to hang it.

We played some games the boys had gotten in their baskets.

Then the boys constructed egg contraptions to drop out Justin's second story window to see if it would break. Hayden used playdough only.

Peyton went with a cotton ball in a cup contraption.

And Calib stuffed some stuffing in a box, and made a parachute out of a bag.

We had a really easy low country boil for dinner.

And then headed over to Justin's to drop our eggs.

Hayden went first.

Success!

Peyton went second.

Success!

And Calib went last.

His was in tact too!

Then they wanted to toss their eggs into the field behind Justin's house.

We hit the pool after our egg dropping. The water is still cold, but the boys had a good time.

Hayden got new goggles in his Easter basket, so he was happy to try them out.

We've also been doing some mini state projects based on the final four teams for March Madness. I did Michigan and made the sample. There was a information sheet on the state, a poster to promote tourism, and a brochure on the University.

The boys got to work on theirs.

Hayden filled out all of his stuff on Kentucky.

Then he colored in Kentucky on the map

And we drew an outline out to his state.

Peyton had North Carolina/Duke

And Calib had Wisconsin.

So our final four board was up.

After the games Saturday we put the brochures for the two final teams in the middle and everyone made their predictions for who would win. Asa and I went with Wisconsin, the boys all went with Duke. In case you're wondering, Asa won our family bracket, so we'll be going out to dinner at a place of his choosing in the near future.

We even themed our food tonight for the final two. We had Wisconsin Mac and Cheese for dinner and there's a pie from North Carolina Asa whipped up that we'll be having later. I'm too lazy to download the pictures from them though. I really just wanted to do a quick blog tonight. It's a little sloppy, I know, but hey, they can't all be super awesome, right?

Oh, and I finally got our lessons by dad timeline up. It has the date, the event, and a picture of our activity for the day on adding machine paper. It doesn't photograph well, but it looks pretty cool.

Next Up: Dig out your togas, it's Greek Week!
