The Honorable Judge Hayden L. Waterstraut Presiding

Hayden was pretty luck today, he got not one, but two jobs today. Calib and Peyton were both lawyers, and we obviously needed a judge, but other than attending the trial, I didn't know what else to have him do. So, he had a regular job, and a packet about it during the day, but after dinner he got to be Judge Hayden. (Isn't he adorable in his judge's robe with his gavel?)

They all got their owl mail this morning, with their career assignments, career task cards, and a few extra items. I think I forgot to tell you yesterday, but they all also have resumes they are updating every day.

(Side note: I let them skip reading today, since they had to write their Waterstraut Weekly's, but Hayden read anyway. LOVE that!)

In the packet for the lawyers was the police report they would have to work with to build their case. We went with the traditional Little Red Riding Hood/ Big Bad Wolf/ Who Ate Granny scenario.

Then both the prosecutor (Calib), and the public defender (Peyton) had a packet to build their case, including evidence, opening statements, a list of questions for various witnesses they planned to call to the stand, and closing statements.

Asa actually had to work today for a few hours because of a training course he had to attend. But, he got to do it from home and gets to cut off four hours from Friday, so I'm ok with that. Plus, I needed to do a grocery store trip (I should have taken a picture, I spent $16 for something just short of $100 worth of groceries, AND I got a $10 gift card! I'm killing it this week with that big $10 off $50 coupon from Target). We squeezed in a pop quiz for March presidents before I took the board down and moved the bills and coin to Peyton and Hayden's room.

Anyway, since Asa was our wolf, we had to wait until after dinner for the trial. I'll just go ahead and let the pictures speak for themselves.

(Don't you like the ties on the boys?)

(I was little Red Riding Hood in case you couldn't tell)

And Hayden swore everyone in, with a "tell the truth, ok?"

The Big Bad Wolf made some pretty outrageous accusations, as if Red were the one to kill her grandmother, please.

You can totally tell Asa is making air quotes here.

Hayden was losing control of his courtroom.

And then it was time for closing statements.

Then it was time for Judge Hayden's decision.

And OUTRAGE from the Defense. (Judge Hayden found the wolf guilty, but he only got three years for murder, so I'm not sure why he's that upset).

As for Hayden's other job, he was a factory worker. I had picked this marker making kit up awhile ago and was waiting for the right time to pull it out.

So we opened it all up and got to work making our markers.

It was actually SUPER cool. First we took some tubes and stuffed the tips into them. Then Hayden mixed colors according to the color making sheet he had. He measured it all out exactly like it told him to create the colors he wanted by using the measuring tubes (which lock into the base so you don't have to worry about spills, good job, Crayola!)

Then you put these little paper like tubes into the mixture until it absorbs it all.

You take the colored paper tube out of the beaker thing with tweezers, and place it into the marker tube, pushing it all the way down and then placing a cap on top. Again, there's a nice little place to put all this so it's not messy.

Pulling the handle down, it pushed on the cap, after a couple of clicks it's locked on there.

Then again, there's a place to put them while you wait for the color to absorb into the tip.

You just wait a couple minutes, and then they are ready to try out (we called this quality assurance).

What's cool is they even come with tags.

Hayden labeled them and wrapped them around each one.

It also comes with boxes to put the markers in, which of course you get to color with your new markers you just made.

And ta da! Hayden made his very own pack of 8 crayola markers.

What I love about this is how compact it is. There's a place for all the little pieces (it comes with enough to make two 8 packs, but you can always order more).

And it all folds up to this neat little package.

After dinner, chores, and a walk, we handed out everyone's pay for the day, they had to pay their bills, and keep track of how much they were getting and spending on their bank account sheet.

Oh, and look what came! I had a coupon code for a free photo book and all I had to do was pay the shipping!

We've hung out tonight and tried to catch up on some TV together. We are behind a couple Survivors and Once Upon A Times, so I haven't gotten the Waterstraut Weekly up today. I have the articles, but I haven't put it to print yet. It's on my list for tomorrow, along with more careers, a trip to the library, and root beer floats (yes, again so soon! Asa is killing it).

Next Up: More Career Week!
