Social Distancing Journal, Day 80: Happy Quarantine Birthday Calib!

There's a lot going on in the world, but for now, lets just talk Calib's Birthday! Yesterday, Calib became the second family member to celebrate their birthday in quarantine. (Asa was the first way back on Day 12). I suspect the rest of the summer birthdays will have to modify our birthdays a bit as well.

Calib did sleep out in the blanket fort with Hayden the last few nights. They put on a movie, and play Civ together into the wee hours of the morning.

I also let Calib decide where everyone's clip should be for the day.

We also held another Jones soda draft.

And mostly what Calib got for his birthday is whatever he wanted for food. Yesterday's lunch was nachos.

Now, the plan had been the beach. But, the weather was iffy. Because now it's basically summer here. Which means it may or may not rain on your outdoor plans. An issue when you can't use any indoor plans as backups. Without a Plan B, Calib wasn't into the beach idea. He didn't want to drive all that way just to have to turn around. So instead we decided to try out the pool for the first time.

The pool at the lodge actually opened a couple weeks ago. At first, you had to have your temperature taken to be down there, you had to sign up for half hour slots, and it could only function at 25% capacity. I think that lasted less than two weeks, before people complained. They upped the capacity to 50%, and stopped with temperatures and reservations. Unfortunately, they also decided now was a good time to replace the pavers around the lap pool (why didn't they do that in the like 50 days nobody could go to the pool?), so we only have one pool open. You still have to check in, there's a table outside the gate, and the gate is propped open so you don't have to touch it.  We went down on our bikes first to scout on the crowd, decided it was ok, and gave it a try. Except for one guy swimming laps in the lagoon pool, everyone stayed in their own little area of the pool, so it was fine. We put our stuff on the ground instead of tables or anything, and the ladders are cautioned off so nobody uses them (our deep end has a ledge of seats around it, so you can just step out that way.

When we got home, there was mail to be checked.

And then we talked about ordering, or going to get, some drinks at Wawa. Peyton, who is rarely seen these days, materialized at the sound of "Wawa", so there's that.

We ordered on the app, but still had to go in to get it. I stayed in the car and waited while Asa went in (my skin is still irritated from my last mask wearing). Asa, one other guy, and the employees were the only people wearing masks. Everyone else came and went, like nothing. Some guy was even chewing (and spitting tabacco). Dude, like come on.

But, we did get smoothies for everyone, so that's nice!

Then Calib opened a few presents from us. He didn't have a lot: some socks, boxers, and a wawa gift card.

Usually we give him tickets to something, but obviously, that's tough right now. So, he's got a voucher to cash in when we have a better idea when/if we can schedule something. If not, he can use it for a bigger purchase. Restrictions do apply though.

Calib, Hayden and Asa played some basketball, while Peyton and I watched some Walle.

For dinner we had an Ainsworth family take out tradition (usually reserved for Christmas time), in pizza and Chinese food.

Jake sent me text early in the day to see if we wanted to video chat for Calib's birthday, which I thought was nice. He had to clear his schedule of doing nothing, of course, but he made it work. We played a couple rounds of drawful.

And then we had Sattler family zoom for cupcakes. (This was much too late for Clint and Jess to join us, I'm sure they'd been in bed for awhile).

We had our usual GiGi's Cupcakes, Hayden had Mighnight Magic, I had a lemon blueberry one, and everyone else went with Red Velvet.

And then we played "The Mind", a cardgame where you can't talk to anyone, but you have to try and lay the cards down in order from 1-100. After that, I went to shower and they all played some Civ in the blanket fort.

So, it wasn't our usual birthday's for Calib, but it was a good day anyway. And he's 20, which seems accurate and bazaar all at the same time. Clearly, I don't look old enough to have a 20 year old. But here we are.

Anyway, here's hoping next year we can all go bar hopping!
