2020 (1) Summer Games Day 15: Sailing & Table Tennis

Welcome to Olympics Day 15! So, it's a little crazy around here today. We are heading to Disney for a long weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday! (Yes, 40. Yikes!) But, we can't finish the Olympics and hand out the final medals until the actual Olympics in Tokyo are over, because they get some of those medal totals added to theirs. So, we're going on the road for a few days, and it'll be a minute until I get around to blogging about it. Tonight is actually our last event (Day 16), but I'm not sure I'll get the blog. We'll see. Lots of packing to do!

But, before I get to all that madness, lets get to yesterday's events: Sailing & Table Tennis.

And our featured country: Bangladesh.

Which, almost everyone got correct.

We had Besan ChickenCauliflower with Bengali five spice, and Bengali Potatoes . It was ok, but not as yummy as we all remembered. That's ok (spoiler alert: tonight is France's dinner, and I'm sure that'll go over well!)

For sailing I gave the guys each the same amount of foil (and I was very specific to give them the EXACT SAME AMOUNT), and had them build their own boats. The person to get the most pennies in their boat would be the winner. However, you had to decide when to stop, because if your boat took on any water, you were relegated to last place.

Off they went to build their boats.

Peyton was up first. Obviously they weren't allowed to watch each other until they were done, so they wouldn't know how many pennies their competitors put in their boats.

This was very intense. Lots of checking to see if it was taking on any water.

Hayden was up next.

After 9 pennies, his started taking on water.

And then Calib was up...

His took on water too, but after more pennies.

Peyton came out on top!

There was a debate about placing. I had said if you take on water, you were DQed. Calib argued since his took on water with more pennies than Hayden he should get silver. Instead, we gave them both bronze.

And now, onto Table Tennis. Originally I had thought we'd go down to the lodge to play on the ping pong table. But, we're trying to limit our pile of Covid exposure before my birthday and it was rainy and gross out all day yesterday, so going out or even outside was not appealing. Based on the weather the last few days it was good we had moved our last few days of events indoors (not to mention not wanting to be out in the heat).

For this one you had to stand on the board, bounce a tennis ball off the table (get it... table... tennis... ha!) and into one of the laundry baskets. The furthest basket was worth 2 points, the closer basket was worth one.

This was a little harder than it looks.

All five of us played.

Your medalists. I still don't have a gold. But, I do have a couple of silvers.

A look at the medals. Only one event left. Well, that, and we're giving out a medal for the most Spotlight Countries Correct- and the person who made the most correct bets.

The big news of the day, there was a change on the leader board. Peyton is now one point ahead of Calib in overall medals (You get 3 points for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for Bronze).

Still, Calib remains ahead in money.

We'll see if I get to Sport Climbing blog tonight. But, the rest of the Olympics are going on the road. I think I'm even taking our Olympic Flame with us!
