2022 Winter Olympics, Day 14: Hockey

Welcome to Day 14 of the 2022 Winter Games. Today our spotlight country was Hungary, and our event was Hockey. Also, fun fact: today is my 1,000th Blog! Crazy, right? I guess I have been documenting the lives of the Waterstrauts for over a decade now, so that adds up. Anyway, on to Day 14!

Hayden missed on the spotlight country, but both Calib and Peyton got it correct.

Peyton forgot to do the bet for today, so it was just Calib and Hayden vying for for the money from the bet. However, Switzerland took home the gold and the silver, and Italy came in with the bronze, so nobody got a payout.

Since there's only a few days left, I made a couple adjustments on what the Olympians can cash in on. Silver is changing from a quarter to a silver half dollar, and you get the bronze penny and an extra quarter for third place. (The 3 days left home stretch is a nod to Mario Party).

Today's event was hockey. I had plans to make a hockey rink out of the tarp, soap it up,  and use an ice puck outside. But, it's hot out today. A high of 88. The ice will be melted in no time, so instead, I went with the standby, the way we've done it the last two Olympics: inside with some golf balls, a putter, and a net made by using some painters tape and a kitchen chair.

Basically it's like penalty shots- you start closer, and get further away. The most goals wins. If you tied, you went to a tie breaker round.

Hayden was up first, and he hit 6.

Then Asa, Peyton, and myself all got 7.

But then Calib came in and hit 8.

So, we had to hold a tie breaker for silver and bronze. I was out in the first round of tiebreakers, and Asa and Peyton continued on.

Though Hungary was a five spoons up meal, we instead revisited Haiti for dinner. I had already bought the stuff for it, and we missed it because of going to Disney. So, we circled back to Haitian Spaghetti for dinner. (Tomorrow we'll be back on track with countries and meals).

We paired dinner with some Jamaican banana bread (because we had some bananas that were going), Haitian salad, and mango.  It was all delicious!

I leave you with the leader board for the evening..
