Social Distancing Journal, Day 68

Let's do a quick news update. We're at 1.58 million cases of Covid-19 in the US, maybe 47,000 in Florida. But, there was a whole thing about how a woman in charge of our Covid-19 website was forced out after noticing some inaccuracies. So, you know. More or less. We just passed 2,000 deaths in Florida too.

Disney Springs opened today to temperature checks, new signage, masks on everyone, and reduced hours. Everything that opened today was third party restaurants and stores. Disney owned stuff will open next week. Apparently Disney, Seaworld and Busch Gardens are submitting plans on reopening this week. SeaWorld was testing their roller coasters the other day with people wearing masks. Our zoo is opening on the 29th, a couple days earlier than planned. It'll be reservations only though.

Airheads, one of the trampoline gyms opens on Friday. So, I'm thinking Calib and Peyton can't be too far behind with the Flying Squirrel. But, they will still have to do training for everyone before they open (since they've never been open before).

Every time we're out and about there's a few more cars. Traffic is definitely picking up. Gas is going up too. $1.85, at Racetrack anyway, I didn't check Costco. Aldi still isn't open, but the sign for it is up, along with a million signs for every food place under the sun letting you know their specials, that they're open, and you can dine in or carry out. Seriously, the signs are everywhere.

Other than that, I have nothing for you. I was busy all day. It's weird now, because by Wednesday afternoons it feels like the weekend around here (Asa only works from 8 am until noon on Thursday and Friday).

This morning he was able to go on the dog walk too. It's getting too hot for Ellie to do the loop, so we just go to the block past the park and back. It's only just under a mile instead of just over. So we're getting steps it, but we aren't counting it toward our "loop" walk.

We had picked up mulch from Lowes last weekend to thicken it up in some places, and add some in others. So, I spent my afternoon doing that, after I had done some school work with Hayden and gotten the President's wall in the kitchen all set for Harry Truman's birthday tomorrow. Oh, and some laundry was on my to-do list today too.

For our "fun thing of the day", we recreated the opening to 'The Office', and it is amazing. If you want to check it out, it's over on my Facebook page.

Then Asa and I decided to go out into the world. Costco liquor won't deliver and we were on our last bottle of anything. So, we knew we were going to have to go out. The dogs were like, "wait.... you're LEAVING?!?!"

We did need a few other items: some produce, milk, and such, and I debated an instacart order today but I said we should go get the liquor and see what the store is like. If it isn't busy, we can go in and get stuff ourselves. The parking lot was pretty empty, so in we went. And then we bought all kinds of stuff, because I thought if I'm here I'm going to make it worth my while. It was weird. I haven't been in a store in forever. I believe Day 13 of social distancing was the last time I was in Costco. That would have been the end of March. The store was strange. Pretty empty, the main aisles are much bigger. Stickers on the floor for social distancing at checkouts, and plexiglass in front of the whole cashier checkout. We checked out with our favorite cashier, who recognized us even with our masks on. We missed Lindsey! It wasn't as bad as my last experience out there. But I don't love it. Going out is so stressful now, but you feel accomplished. Like, look what I did. I left the house for things! We decided we kind of felt like Phenom on a walk, where he wants to go, then as soon as he is out, he can't wait to go home.

We had decided earlier that when we made our Costco run for liquor we would also go over to Pollo Tropical to try out their Pollo Pantry. We got sauces, rice, beans, and rolls and added in some pork Asa had put in the instant pot. Everyone loved it.

Plus we cut up some lettuce and tomato, and then everyone made what they wanted. I just did a plate of pork, rice, and beans, with sauces. Calib and Asa made bowls of all kinds of things mixed together. Peyton had the curry mustard sauce on top of rice, and Hayden made nachos out of it. Five stars, would recommend. And we have TONS of leftovers.

So, you know, we were all having a pretty good day.

And then during basketball, Asa's phone took a hit. We JUST paid it off with the last bill, too. He was rather upset about it. And if you remember, the SAME thing happened to me as soon as we were done paying it off. Two broken phones in quarantine. Rough. But, on the bright side, two new phones too! Asa is feeling better after placing an order for his new phone. But, upset it won't be here until Monday.

We did walk the loop once tonight. That was nice. Still good weather in the evening.

And bonus! We saw two baby gators hanging out together.

Most popular "hurricane snacks": Nobody has stomach room for snacks tonight after all the yummy dinner we had.

Current binge watching obsession: Finished Upload last night, still working on Billions and Afterlife.

Most popular game: I have to wrap this up, they're waiting on me to play Moving Out.

Boredness scale 1 to 10: 1. If anything I've been super busy today.

Frozen II Watchthroughs: 36. None today. But, Hayden set up our favorites in Disney Plus so we dont have to search all the time.

How many times we've walked the loop: 54. Once today.

Days Down: 68.

Days Remaining: Undetermined. But we've got 11 more days of this until Calib's birthday and we're going to try and got out then (to the beach, while practicing social distancing of course)
