Social Distancing Journal, Day 28

In Bingo news tonight, we've crossed half a million  cases as a nation. Every county in Florida is now reporting cases (Liberty county in the panhandle was the hold out until this evening's report. We're not too close to Bingo though.

I did hear today apparently Ron DeSantis is floating the idea of some counties going back to school, while others don't. A reporter asked the president about this, and of course, Trump just said "I trust DeSantis". I hope they all got washed out by a blue wave asap. I just checked CNN to see if I was missing any news. Headline just now: "US coronavirus cases top 500,000 as researchers say the worst is yet to come in Texas and Florida" Also, the US had its largest single-day jump in coronavirus deaths today. But, some states are supposed to be hitting the apex today: New York for one,.

But, that's all overwhelming news. Today is four weeks of us being on quarantine. I think the reality of the fact that we're probably not going to be done with it in three weeks when Florida's current "stay at home" order expires is starting to feel a little daunting. But you know, it is what it is. Gotta do our part to flatten the curve. History is way more fun to teach than it is so live through.

The pop up tent is still in the living room, Hayden has slept in it two nights in a row. He hasn't asked yet, but I'm guessing it's his plan to continue on until I tell him he can't.

Hayden isn't the only one that likes the cozy tent

Garden check, I have two new decent size cucumbers!

And my sunflowers are getting really tall. I can't wait until they bloom! It's going to attract so many pollinators!

We've added another Coronavirus fun activity, and printed out a Disney Movie challenge. Hayden put a check next to what we watched yesterday and today.  On today's list: The Lion King, Little Mermaid, and Snow White, oh and Nightmare Before Christmas, we'll have to check that off too. So, I guess we watched a lot of movies today (I did work on Jefferson's birthday today, so it was on a lot while I was working). The dots are after movies Hayden has never seen. (Yesterday we printed out the list and watched Tangled and Princess and the Frog.

While watching Snow White, I got really sad because I wanted to ride the Mine Train (if you've never been the song gets played as you climb the mountain.... dig, dig, dig, dig, dig).. I miss Disney SO much, and I thought today "this must be how non-Floridians feel", like anyone who can't just go to Disney whenever they want.

Also funny conversations while watching Snow White
Me: "The dwarfs look so weird without their hats"
Hayden:" They look like they'd be Trump supporters."

Asa made us all Five Guys for dinner again, which was delicious.

And Hayden made us brownies, which we turned into sundaes. It's the weekend, we eat less lentils and more brownies on those days.

We played some Catan.

And Calib did math with grandma, who is still with Cort's family, so the guys were all talking about wrestling with Garrett.

In other news, we decided to have Easter today, because why not? What else did we have to do. The boys always bug me to do holidays early, and they finally got their wish. The baskets were a little light this year, but I did get a lot of this stuff like two days before our social distancing started. I was so proud of myself for thinking of it that far ahead of time.

The boys seemed pleased with their baskets.

And since Peyton and Calib have a hard time getting up before lunchtime, I thought we could do the easter egg hunt later in the day. But then I thought, what if we did it IN THE DARK! So Asa and I hid the eggs in "plain sight", like just sitting on tables and on the floor, and in baskets and things, and then they had 15 minutes to find as many as they could, before we'd turn on the lights and see how many they got, and they could see all the one's they missed. It was hilarious. (Asa followed Calib around scaring the crap out of him, and Calib just kept shouting "easter isn't supposed to be scary!") The whole thing was hilarious, and the boys liked doing it so much, we "hid" the eggs three times. They kept insisting they could do better and find more eggs. Seriously, it was the best egg hunt ever.

One you turned on the lights, they did find they might have had some non-eggs in their collections. Calib grabbed a tomato.

The dogs had to get put in our room, so they weren't getting tripped over. Etta, Phenom and Porkchop came running out the second we opened the door. Ellie was just making herself comfortable.

Also, shout out to Aunt Patti who managed to send the usual Ainsworth Easter treats even in a Pandemic.

This evening we also voted on the Epcot section of our Disney food bracket. There was some serious discussion about a few of them. You are only allowed to vote if you've had both items. A tie gets broken by rock paper scissors. Asa was pissed in the 6th round of rock paper scissors when I beat him and picked Tangierine Cafe in Morocco over Bratwurst in Germany.

Tonights winners.

I also have some cute dog pictures for you.

Resources are getting used here. We dumped a reserve bag of dog food today, and it's time to break into another package of toilet paper.

Most popular "hurricane snacks": Easter candy!

Current binge watching obsession: Disney Plus. We've got a movie challenge now!
